Job summary

Walgett Shire Council seeks reliable HR-licensed drivers to join the Environmental Resources team, with roles alternating between Walgett and Lightning Ridge.

Responsibilities include operating modern waste collection vehicles, and contributing to landfills, waste transfer stations, and quarries. Training and safety are emphasized, with a practical, varied workload and a strong community service focus.

Qualifications

• Hold a current Australian HR driver's licence or higher.
• Experience driving heavy vehicles such as garbage or tipper trucks.
• Comfortable with regular kerbside waste collection.
• Experience operating plant and equipment or willingness to train.

Responsibilities

• Operate modern waste collection vehicles (Isuzu side lift and front lift).
• Assist with operations at landfills, transfer stations, and quarries.
• Operate loaders, skid steers, compactors, excavators and other plant depending on licence.
• Keep vehicles and equipment well-maintained and safe.
