Job summary

Murray Valley Organics is seeking a Permanent, full-time Horticulture Grower to plan and coordinate crop production from soil prep through harvest and market delivery. You will supervise staff/contractors, manage production records, and oversee climate risk and safety processes.

The role covers growing operations, farm infrastructure, budgeting, and ensuring contract requirements and market demand are met. Salary is market-based with superannuation, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III or IV qualification or equivalent.
• 3 years' experience as a Horticulture Grower with formal training.
• 5 years' experience as a Horticulture Grower with no formal training.

• Select and plant seeds, seedlings and bulbs; graft new varieties to root stocks.

Job Description

About the Position This position is responsible for planning and coordinating crop production from soil preparation through to harvest and market delivery. It covers growing operations, farm infrastructure, staff/contractor supervision, production records, climate risk and work health and safety processes.

Occupation Tasks

• Plan and coordinate production and marketing of crops, including fruit and nuts, vegetables, turf and flowers, from soil preparation to harvest while taking environmental and market factors into account.
• Select and plant seeds, seedlings and bulbs, and graft new varieties to root stocks.
• Maintain crop production by cultivating, de-budding and pruning, and by maintaining optimal growing conditions.
• Organise and conduct farming operations including collecting, storing, grading and packaging produce, and organising sale, purchase and dispatch of produce.
• Direct and oversee general farming activities such as fertilising and pest and weed control.
• Maintain farm buildings, fences, equipment and water supply systems.
• Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities, monitor market activity, and plan crop preparation and production to meet contract requirements and market demand.
• Manage business capital, including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management.
• Select, train and supervise staff and contractors where required.
• Develop climate risk management strategies.
• Manage work health and safety processes.

Market Salary $72,000- $80,000 per annum plus superannuation
