Job summary

Rural Fibre Co is seeking a hands-on Horizontal Directional Driller/Driller Offsider for projects in the Pakenham region, VIC. You will operate Vermeer HDD equipment, support the drill crew, and maintain safety and quality on site.

Ideal candidates have HDD experience, a Heavy Rigid licence, and White Card, with a practical mindset for field-based infrastructure work delivering fibre connectivity to regional Australia.

Qualifications

• Valid Heavy Rigid Licence is required.
• Construction Induction (White Card) is required.
• Experience with Horizontal Directional Drilling is essential.
• Experience using DCI Falcon Tracking is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy rigid beavertail trucks to transport drilling equipment.
• Load and unload machinery safely and efficiently.
• Mix drilling mud for ground conditions and bore stability.
• Assist with conduit pullbacks and installation.
• Communicate clearly with crew to maintain safety and efficiency.
• Maintain high safety, cleanliness and professionalism on site.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on drilling equipment.
• Diagnose faults to support timely repairs or adjustments.

Whether you're operating the drill or supporting the crew, you bring a strong commitment to safety, precision, and teamwork in every task.As a Horizontal Directional Driller, you’ll be responsible for operating Vermeer Horizontal Directional Drills, managing bore paths, and navigating underground utilities with accuracy and care. You understand the importance of planning, ground conditions, and drill fluid management, and you take pride in delivering clean, efficient shots that meet project specifications.As a Driller Offsider, you’ll play a key support role in the field, assisting with setup, tooling, and site operations. You’ll use DCI Falcon Trackers to monitor drill head location and depth, ensuring accurate tracking and communication with the driller. Your ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and light machinery makes you an essential part of the crew.You thrive in dynamic environments, maintain high standards of safety and compliance, and bring a positive attitude to every job.
