Job summary

Power and Water Corporation in Darwin is seeking a High Voltage Field Operator to perform switching for maintenance, fault response and construction across HV networks. You will work with System Control, Asset Management and Projects teams to ensure safe operation and reliability of the Territory's power network.

The role requires HV switching expertise, strong safety practices, and willingness to travel to remote locations.

Qualifications

• Current Electrical Workers Licence endorsed as an A Grade Electrician or Linesman.
• Current C Class Driver Licence.
• High Voltage Switching Qualification/Authorisation.
• White Card.
• Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Perform high voltage switching for maintenance, fault response and construction activities across transmission and distribution networks with a strong focus on safety and permit management.
• Work across transmission and distribution networks to safely operate, commission and decommission high voltage equipment.
• Respond to network faults and unplanned outages in a timely and safe manner.
• Support reliability and performance of the Territory's power network, including after-hours on-call duties.

Power and Water Corporation is a Northern Territory Government (NTG) owned utility that operates across a geographic area of 1.3 million square kilometres, spanning the arid deserts of Central Australia to the tropical monsoon regions of the Top End. The Corporation generates, transmits and distributes electricity, while providing water and wastewater services to urban centres, remote communities and Aboriginal communities across the Northern Territory.

An exciting opportunity exists for a High Voltage Field Operator to join our Power Services team in Darwin. This role is responsible for performing high voltage switching for maintenance, fault response and construction activities across transmission and distribution networks, with a strong focus on safety, permit management and fault response. The position also involves travel to remote locations and participation in an after-hours on-call roster.

As a High Voltage Field Operator, you will work closely with System Control, Asset Management, Projects and Network Performance teams to safely operate, commission and decommission high voltage equipment while supporting the reliability and performance of the Territory's power network.

The successful applicant will bring extensive experience in high voltage network operations, switching and fault response, together with strong technical knowledge and a commitment to safe work practices. Most importantly, you will have the ability to apply sound judgement in dynamic field environments, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the power network while delivering essential services to the Northern Territory.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

Essential Qualifications and Licences

• Current Electrical Workers Licence endorsed as an A Grade Electrician or Linesman.
• Current C Class Driver Licence.
• High Voltage Switching Qualification/Authorisation.

• Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.

Skills and Experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of transmission and distribution high voltage operational procedures and OH&S requirements.
• Strong knowledge of high voltage distribution and transmission networks.
• Experience responding to network faults and unplanned outages.
• Knowledge of high voltage protection schemes and switching apparatus.
• Ability to source and interpret technical information from manuals, technical bulletins and computer-based systems.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable

• Knowledge of generation network operations.
• Current HR Driver Licence.
• Current High Risk Licences including EWP and Forklift.
• Experience operating 132kV high voltage equipment.
