Job summary

HyperLight is seeking an Electro-Optic Modulator Design Engineer to design, optimize, and characterize high-speed modulators. You will own devices end-to-end—from concept through tapeout, validation, and production—collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable integration of photonic ICs.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant work experience or an advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong record of independent innovation and technical problem solving with publications, products, or patents.
• Deep physical intuition for the applied physics of devices you have designed before.
• Strong understanding of RF, microwave, and/or integrated photonic devices and principles (transmission line theory, S-parameters, impedance matching).

Responsibilities

• Own the full development of modulator designs from concept to production.
• Collaborate with layout, process, manufacturing, test, and product teams to design components for photonic ICs.
• Perform high-frequency RF (>100 GHz) and electro-optic simulations; develop and implement high-speed test/calibration techniques.
• Serve as a technical expert across the product development lifecycle.
