Job summary

Service Stream is seeking a Heritage & Environmental Advisor to assess proposed telecommunications sites, identify environmental and heritage constraints, and determine approval requirements. You will coordinate permits and assessments, provide technical advice to project teams, and support delivery in line with legislative and regulatory requirements.

The role involves liaising with councils, regulators and external consultants to secure approvals, manage risks and maintain compliant project

Responsibilities

  • Assess telecommunications projects for environmental and heritage constraints and identify permit requirements.
  • Provide guidance to Operations, Project Managers and delivery teams on environmental matters.
  • Prepare, coordinate and submit environmental, heritage and statutory permits, approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate environmental and heritage assessments to support project delivery and compliance requirements.
  • Engage external consultants to obtain required assessments, reports, permits and approvals.
  • Review consultant deliverables to ensure quality, compliance and alignment with project requirements.
  • Liaise with councils, government agencies, regulators, utility providers and other stakeholders as required.
  • Monitor project compliance with environmental and heritage obligations and identify potential risks.
  • Identify and elevate complex, high‑risk or precedent setting matters to the Heritage & Environmental Lead.
  • Maintain accurate project records, approvals registers and supporting documentation.

The role coordinates the preparation and management of permits, approvals, assessments and compliance activities, provides technical advice to project teams, and supports the delivery of projects in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements

Key responsibilities

  • Assess telecommunications projects for environmental and heritage constraints and identify potential risks, permit requirements and approval pathways.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Operations, Project Managers and delivery teams on environmental and heritage matters.
  • Prepare, coordinate and submit environmental, heritage and statutory permits, approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate environmental and heritage assessments to support project delivery and compliance requirements.
  • Engage and manage external consultants to obtain required assessments, reports, permits and approvals.
  • Review consultant deliverables to ensure quality, compliance and alignment with project requirements.

Experience required

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the telecommunications, infrastructure, environmental or heritage sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting environmental and heritage assessments, permits, approvals and compliance activities.
  • Experience interpreting and applying local, state and Commonwealth legislation, regulations and approval requirements relating to environmental, heritage and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, regulatory approvals and technical assessments.
  • Experience engaging with councils, regulators, consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, permit applications and supporting documentation.
  • Exposure to engaging with First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) stakeholders or culturally appropriate consultation processes is desirable.

Qualifications required

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning, Environmental Planning or related discipline.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, approvals and competing priorities.
