Job summary

National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is seeking a Safety and Compliance Officer based in Queanbeyan, NSW. The role focuses on frontline compliance and enforcement of heavy vehicle regulations, including HVIS, HVSS and On Road Enforcement tasks.

Regular travel and comprehensive training are included. You will undertake inspections, apply a range of sanctions, and use technology to record activity, while maintaining high standards of customer service and knowledge of evolving transport laws.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience in a regulatory context.
• Strong written communication and record-keeping.
• Ability to adapt to varying shifts and travel.
• Proven interpersonal and conflict-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with road transport laws through education and enforcement activities.
• Apply sanctions including warnings, penalty notices and investigation reports.
• Utilise compliance tools to record vehicle intercepts and inspections.
• Conduct high-quality inspections using appropriate equipment and software.
• Interact professionally with drivers to promote road safety in a regulatory environment.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving laws and operational procedures.
