Job Overview

We are looking for a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Lead to join our growing Fire Testing Laboratory in Dandenong. As the champion of HSEQ in the Lab, this position is part of a small HSEQ team based in other Australian offices. The role reports to the HSEQ Manager, and partners with the division business leaders and workforce to provide support and implementation of the company HSEQ programs. The laboratory is ISO 17025 accredited and 9001 certified with an intent to expand to 450 and 14001. In this role you will have an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients, and communities.

While this is a full‑time role, we are open to more experienced candidates working flexible or part‑time hours.

In this role, you will work across a huge range of different activities:

  • Responsible for the execution of a company focused HSEQ program in the Lab and working with the wider HSEQ team to execute these programs across the consulting sites in Australia and New Zeland.
  • Take the lead role in incident investigation, including recommending improvement opportunities, recording, and closing out all incidents and near misses on company intranet.
  • Ensure all safety bulletins are communicated to staff and the actions are completed prior to due date.
  • Partner with laboratory management teams (GM, and Operations Manager, Department level) and safety committees to understand HSE concerns, opportunities, and gaps and provide solutions to close the gaps.
  • Growing the awareness of HSE via audits, inspections and assessments to determine needs and identify gaps (across our laboratory and throughout the division) and develop programs to close the gap.
  • Establish and implement the Health, Safety and Environmental company program ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Advise and assist managers and employees in identifying HSE improvement opportunities and actions.
  • Coordinate and assist in developing test, materials, substances and facility hazard / risk assessments, safe operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work method statements (SWMS).
  • Assist with new hire orientation and training programs. Prepare and deliver HSE training for employees ie manual handling, working at height, etc.
  • Coordinate return to work/modified duty program with the assistance of the Human Resources Department.
  • Maintain location Emergency Action Plan.
Requirements And Qualifications
  • Must be an Australian Citizen / Permanent Resident.
  • This is an on‑site position in our Testing Lab, based in Dandenong.
  • Relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Love to collaborate with clients and other teams within the projects.
  • Formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (minimum Australian Certificate IV in WHS or NEBOSH General Certificate, preferable Diploma in WHS) with additional incident investigation and risk assessment qualifications desirable.
  • Working knowledge of ISO standards (eg 17025:2017, 9001:2015, 14001:2015, and 45001:2018) and Victorian WHS and Environmental Management legislation and regulations is desirable.
  • Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience in a similar role.
  • Personal drive, results‑orientated with a friendly, can‑do attitude and a high level of honesty, integrity, commitment and responsibility.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills.
