Job summary

Googong High School seeks a Head Teacher of Technological and Applied Studies to lead a pioneering STEM faculty as the school opens for Year 7–8 in 2027. You will guide curriculum, operations and personnel across a large team of teachers and drive interdisciplinary programs within the faculty and wider school.

The role starts in term 4 to help establish the new school, refining curriculum design, supporting incoming teachers and assisting in the school’s operational setup.

Googong High School will open to year 7 and 8 students in 2027. Situated in the Queanbeyan Network on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, the school serves a rapidly growing, highly engaged and aspirational community, with the potential for the school to expand to cater for approximately 2000 students.

The Head Teacher of Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) will be the founding member of our interdisciplinary STEM faculty. This faculty will encompass Mathematics, Science and TAS and be led by a team of Head Teachers who will work collaboratively to lead the operational, curriculum and personnel needs of a large, dynamic group of teachers. Whilst this role is for TAS, the position will take a key point in leading interdisciplinary programs within the faculty and wider school.

The Head Teacher TAS will commence in term 4 to support the challenging yet rewarding work of establishing a new school. During this time, the successful applicant will be involved in responsibilities such as refining the school's curriculum design, preparing to support incoming teachers and assisting in the operational set up of the school.

5. 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. 1. Capacity to lead the implementation of a high-impact, innovative STEM curriculum that delivers strong educational outcomes for students of all abilities and year groups.
2. 2. Proven strategic leadership capacity, with the ability to plan for and meet the needs of a faculty during a time of rapid growth and expansion.
3. 3. Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop the capacity of other staff to deliver quality teaching practice to all students.
