Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will:

Be an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.

Hold a relevant trade qualification, such as carpentry or an equivalent field.

Have considerable experience in building, maintenance, planning and building compliance.

Have proven experience in leading teams.

Have well developed written and oral communication skills.>

Have excellent interpersonal skills.

Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.

Have a shared responsibility to ensure ongoing support for a child‑safe culture.

Be willing to develop an understanding of the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice.

Hold a valid driver’s licence; a bus driving licence would be highly regarded.

A current Working with Children card is required.

A National Criminal History Record check is required as part of the employment process.

Performance Objectives
Strategic Facilities Planning

Assist the College Leadership Team in developing and implementing a long‑term property and facilities strategy aligned with the College’s educational vision and growth plans: (initially 2026 – 2030), including the Master Plan.

Develop a complete site maintenance plan for the next 5 years and implement.

Maintenance

Ensure all legally required and directed maintenance/registrations are scheduled and completed, and appropriate records maintained.

Prepare, monitor and maintain a proactive preventative maintenance programme.

Assist with the management of maintenance and minor works to ensure that priorities are met in accordance with agreed maintenance programmes and budgets.

Undertake various maintenance requests in a “hands on” manner with other department staff.

Ensure the maintenance ticket system is updated to include all relevant data associated with tasks being carried out to facilitate urgent and ad‑hoc maintenance requests being completed within agreed timeframes.

Respond to urgent out‑of‑hours maintenance request as needed.

Grounds

Ensure College grounds are aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Maintain quality landscaping.

Ensure the College Cloisters are maintained to provide a safe and appropriate surface for events and activities.

Manage retic and water usage.

Maintain car parks and College signage.

Staff Management

Ensure department staff are adequately briefed on procedures and guidelines.

Lead and mentor property staff, fostering a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Provide input into property staff recruitment and selection.

Facilitate a welcoming, supportive and productive departmental environment where staff and contractors feel valued.

Build relationships with staff within the assigned areas of responsibility and ensure that effective channels of communication are maintained.

Undertakes competency reviews, coaching, mentoring and training as needed, reviews performance and gives encouraging, constructive feedback.

Service Management

Manage College logistics, including but not limited to moving of deliveries, furniture removals, set up and pack down for College functions and events, and removal of surplus furniture and equipment.

Perform regular visual inspections of buildings, grounds and gardens to ensure compliance with all legislative responsibilities and the preventative maintenance programme is maintained and updated where required.

Purchase supplies, ensuring economy, efficiency and effectiveness.

Liaise with suppliers to ensure appropriate quality and delivery. Test all suppliers and contractors to the College – waste removal, electrical, plumbing, fire services, mechanical.

Identify cost‑saving opportunities and ensure responsible use of school resources.

Oversee contractor reviews on an annual basis or as required.

Work Health and Safety

Provide and maintain a safe working environment that is free from hazards, ensuring compliance with occupation, health and safety legislation.

Identify and manage risks, including psychosocial hazards.

Ensure contractors perform risk assessments, have appropriate PPE and safe systems of work.

Ensure all staff are provided with the necessary health and safety instruction, training and supervision to perform their jobs safely.

Be an active member of the College Work Health and Safety Committee.

Register all third party Working with Children cards and maintain an up‑to‑date log for audit purposes.

Review supplier invoices, confirming delivery and accuracy.

Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with the development of the Department annual budget.

Monitor monthly budget reports initiating corrective action where required.

Oversee all buildings, maintenance and grounds work to ensure completion within agreed budgets and timeframes.

Other

Manage the securing of campus facilities in conjunction with the cleaning contractor.

Act as first in line for after‑hours security monitoring calls.

Availability to assist with after‑hours campus lock up should circumstances arise.

Availability for after‑hours emergency callouts.

Availability for occasional after‑hours work as required.

Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal or Director of Finance and Operations.

This is a full time, ongoing position. Commencing on 1 January 2026, or sooner by negotiation.

Salary $130,000 per annum plus superannuation.

A College vehicle is included as part of the remuneration package (to remain at the 4 weeks annual leave).

4 weeks annual leave.
