This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading medical program and help shape the future of medical education in Australia and comes at a time where ANU has made a major investment in the medical program and School of Medicine and Psychology. ANU has a high-quality medical program which is currently undergoing a substantial revision expanding clinical placements, enhancing Indigenous Health through the program and with plans to implement a world first longitudinal evidenced based student development program.

The Head of Medical Program will have an excellent working relationship with the local health sector, and particularly with the SMP Clinical Schools, to support the curriculum taught in clinical settings. They will be expected to work collegially, leading by example to develop and maintain effective, productive and beneficial workplace relationships with all academic, clinical and professional Hospital, School and College staff, students and honorary appointees, as well as with industry stakeholders.

The Head of Medical Program is expected to:

  • Lead all aspects of the ANU Medical program overseeing curriculum development and implementation,assessment, evaluation, admissions and student development and welfare.
  • Ensure the ANU Medical program is designed and implemented to meet the accreditation standards of theAustralian Medical Council and relevant university policies and procedures.
  • Provide teaching and research leadership through medical program design, development and delivery andthe implementation of clinical and non-clinical placements.
  • Supervise relevant staff within SMP.
  • Work diligently to help achieve SMP education and research strategies
  • Chair the Medical Program (MChD) Committee and contribute to the SMP Education Committee
  • Collaborate with the SMP Clinical Schools to ensure effective delivery and support of the medical programat all sites.
  • Foster a safe working environment through identification, management, and mitigation of risks andhazards; engage in business continuity planning; ensure compliance with relevant WHS policies andprocedures, including those belonging to the University and Clinical Schools.
  • Undertake other duties as required from time to time consistent with the classification level of the position.
  • A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience working successfully with medical and/or health professionals to effectively deliver medical education programs with previous senior leadership experience in a Medical School, Clinical School or similar health or university environment.
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching including achievements in curriculum development and organisation and the ability to develop and implement teaching programs.
  • Demonstrated high quality contribution to scholarship and research in Medical Education, including a distinguished record in curriculum development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to foster relationships with a variety of staff and students in a cross-disciplinary academic environment and to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing academic leadership and a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop colleagues to achieve goals.
