Job summary

A Sydney-based, substantial Australian-owned business is seeking a senior leader to own the legal, governance, risk and compliance function. You will redesign how this work is delivered, not merely increase volume, and drive a technology-first, automated operation across all channels.

The role requires a qualified lawyer with experience in Australian Consumer Law and a track record of implementing technology within a legal function.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with Australian practice.
• Experience with Australian Consumer Law strongly preferred.
• Experience in online, retail or digital sales environment is advantageous.
• Ability to design governance frameworks sized to the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Own the legal, governance, risk and compliance technology stack with adoption across the function.
• Automate contract generation, amendment and execution with self-maintaining registers and workflows.
• Deploy AI for first-pass drafting, monitoring and routine triage with human accountability.
• Build governance, risk and compliance frameworks sized to the business.
• Own Australian Consumer Law compliance end-to-end across all sales channels.
• Oversee privacy and data obligations with the tech and marketing teams on data handling.
• Manage regulator matters with fast, commercial responses.
• Act as Privacy Officer and accountable for the Whistleblower Policy.
• Lead and develop a small team including a Legal and Compliance Manager.
