Shape the Future of Football: Head of Football Programs Opportunity at Launceston Church Grammar School

Launceston Church Grammar School is an Anglican co‑educational day and boarding school in northern Tasmania. Known for educational excellence and a strong, values‑based community, we provide rich learning and co‑curricular experiences for students from Early Learning to Year 12.

We are seeking applications from experienced, high‑calibre Football leaders for the role of Head of Football Programs, commencing in 2026.

About the Role

The Head of Football Programs provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for our Australian Rules Football program from Years 3–12, supporting both girls’ and boys’ pathways. This role is responsible for establishing a cohesive Football Framework that promotes player development, coaching excellence, and a culture grounded in character, wellbeing and School values.

Working across both the Senior and Junior Campuses, you will lead the design and delivery of a high‑quality participation and performance pathway, oversee approximately six coaches, and strengthen connections with AFL Tasmania, local clubs and community partners. Your leadership will elevate the visibility and impact of Football at Launceston Grammar.

This is a part‑time (0.4 FTE), 12‑month fixed term contract.

As part of this role, you will be required to:

  • Develop and implement a whole‑school Football Framework that sets philosophy, standards and expectations.
  • Build a positive program culture focused on learning, character, wellbeing and excellence.
  • Lead, mentor and develop all Football Coaches across boys’ and girls’ programs.
  • Oversee fixtures, scheduling, equipment, travel logistics and SATIS compliance.
  • Ensure safe, well‑organised training and game‑day environments.
  • Support player development, wellbeing and representative pathway opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Strength & Conditioning and Health staff on load and injury management.
  • Strengthen partnerships with AFL Tasmania, NTFA, NTJFA and local community clubs.
  • Lead key Football events including season launches, clinics, carnivals and presentations.
  • Drive the growth of Girls and Junior Football, including the Girls 1st XVIII and Under 8 programs.

About You

We are seeking an inspiring Football leader who demonstrates:

  • Experience at Tier 2 or higher (VFL, SANFL, WAFL, AFL‑listed or Talent League) as a player, coach or program leader
  • Strong leadership capability with the gravitas to mentor coaches and inspire young people
  • A practical understanding of athlete development, game‑based learning and adolescent wellbeing
  • Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
  • Commitment to the values and Anglican ethos of Launceston Church Grammar School
  • A collaborative approach, a sense of humour, and a genuine passion for school‑based sport

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current/eligible Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Tasmania)
  • National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
  • AFL Coaching Accreditation Level 2 or higher (desirable)
  • Qualifications in coaching, PE, sport management, or related fields (desirable)
  • Experience working within a school or educational environment (desirable)
  • Understanding of SATIS structures and Tasmanian football pathways (desirable)
  • Commitment to child safety, safeguarding and mandatory reporting
