Job summary

Moreton Bay College in Brisbane, Australia seeks an accomplished Languages teacher and instructional leader to become Head of Languages. You will lead French and Japanese for Years 7–12 and oversee language pathways including distance education and QCAA subjects.

You will provide instructional leadership, curriculum planning and assessment oversight while coaching staff and guiding student pathways. The role includes 0.3 FTE release for leadership duties.

Qualifications

• Ability to teach French or Japanese in Years 11–12.
• Experience leading Languages curriculum across Years 7–12.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Curriculum and QCAA requirements.
• Proven capability to lead inclusive, evidence-informed teaching.
• Ability to build staff capability and sustain departmental practice.
• Current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
• Appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications.

The successful applicant will lead French and Japanese across Years 7–12 and oversee language pathways delivered through QCAA Senior External Examination subjects and distance education.

What You'll Do

• Provide exemplary instructional leadership aligned with College priorities

• Coach, mentor and support teachers through observation, feedback and professional dialogue
• Oversee assessment quality, moderation, reporting and relevant QCAA quality-assurance processes
• Use student achievement data and other evidence to guide departmental improvement
• Provide informed subject-selection and pathway advice to students and families
• Contribute to the Secondary Academic Committee and broader academic life of the College
• The successful applicant will teach up to four equivalent subject lines, with 0.3 FTE teaching release for Head of Languages responsibilities.

The PAR allowance and teaching release are provided specifically for the Head of Department responsibilities. The role will not be combined with another coordination position, project, strategy, ongoing co-curricular responsibility or additional operational portfolio.

• Demonstrated capacity to teach either French or Japanese in Years 11 and 12
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in Languages
• Strong knowledge of Australian Curriculum and QCAA curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements
• Demonstrated capacity to lead inclusive, evidence-informed teaching and learning
• Ability to build staff capability and support consistent departmental practice
• Appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications
• Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Queensland College of Teachers

Appointment Conditions

• Competitivesalary of $92,146.35–$134,794.36 per annum plus a $22,531.76 annual position-of-responsibility allowance
• The successful applicant will teach up to four equivalent subject lines, with 0.3 FTE teaching release for Head of Languages responsibilities.
• The Positions of Added Responsibility (PAR) is appointed for five years. At the conclusion of the five-year appointment, the College will declare the position vacant and undertake a full selection process consistent with clause 12.9 of the Moreton Bay College Enterprise Agreement 2025. The incumbent may apply for the advertised position.

Salary will be determined according to recognised teaching experience under the Moreton Bay College Enterprise Agreement 2025.
