Are you an experienced asset and facilities leader with a passion for strategic planning, operational excellence and collaboration in a complex maritime environment? Ports Victoria is seeking a strategic and influential leader to lead asset and facilities management, engineering assurance and capital delivery. This role offers an opportunity to shape the long-term performance, safety and sustainability of the assets and infrastructure that support Victoria’s commercial ports.
Location | The position will be primarily located at Port Melbourne
Ports Victoria (PV) is the State's port safety regulator and provides key maritime advice to government. We oversee vessel traffic for nearly 10,000 commercial ship movements annually, set standards for safe navigation through Victoria's commercial port waters, manage shipping channels that connect the state to the world, and operate Victoria’s cruise ship terminal. The commercial port eco-system underpins Victoria's economy. More than 98 per cent of the state's international trade moves by sea, supporting over 88,000 jobs and $111 billion in annual trade value. Victoria’s freight trade task is projected to more than double in future decades. We provide government with the expertise and advice needed to plan for that future. Ports Victoria is an equal opportunities employer and embraces the benefits that diversity in our workplace brings.
This senior executive role (SES 1) will help shape the assets and infrastructure that keep maritime operations moving. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide leadership across asset and facilities management, infrastructure planning, engineering assurance and capital project delivery. Your portfolio spans shipping channels, navigation aids, wharves, jetties, land and facilities, including significant sites such as Station Pier. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will connect long-term planning with operational needs, guiding investment and delivery decisions that balance safety, service reliability, risk and financial sustainability.
You are an asset and infrastructure/facilities leader who can turn complex technical and commercial issues into clear priorities and practical outcomes. You build trusted relationships, exercise sound judgement and bring a strong commitment to safety, accountability and sustainable asset stewardship.
Extensive senior leadership experience across asset and facilities management, infrastructure operations, maintenance and capital delivery in asset-intensive, regulated environments.
A strong record of developing long-term asset and investment strategies and governing capital programs from planning through to delivery.
Expertise in engineering governance, asset assurance, lifecycle management and risk-based decision-making.
Commercial capability across procurement, contract negotiation and complex supplier relationships.
The ability to lead across multidisciplinary functions, influence senior stakeholders and communicate confidently with Boards and executives.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, asset management, infrastructure management or a related discipline, supported by professional expertise. Demonstrated capability and relevant equivalent experience will be considered in accordance with the position description.
Experience in ports, transport or infrastructure, government or statutory authority environments, and contemporary asset management frameworks will be highly regarded.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of digital capability across a critical Victorian infrastructure organisation. You will lead strategic transformation initiatives, strengthen cyber resilience, modernise technology platforms and help shape how technology enables the future of Victoria's maritime network.
The role requires regular attendance at operational locations in Melbourne and Geelong, with occasional travel to Hastings, Portland and other locations as required. Flexible or hybrid arrangements may apply to duties that are not location-dependent, in accordance with Ports Victoria policy. A current driver’s licence and Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) may be required (or have the ability to obtain) for operational access.
Employment with Ports Victoria is subject to satisfactory background checks, including professional references and a character check. Employment may be offered conditional to successful achievement of checks.
Ports Victoria is committed to building a diverse, inclusive and safe workplace where everyone can contribute and thrive.
