Job summary

MTData is seeking a practical Hardware Engineer to work across electronics, embedded firmware and production systems in Monash. You’ll own the full lifecycle from concept to production testing and field support, collaborating closely with the Senior Hardware Engineer and Engineering Manager.

You’ll design analogue and power circuits, develop firmware in C for ARM Cortex-M MCUs, and build automated test jigs while applying design-for-manufacture and design-for-test principles.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or an equivalent discipline.
• Commercial experience in hardware engineering.
• Embedded firmware development experience in C on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux, including peripheral integration and device trees.
• Python experience for test automation, tooling or data processing.
• Confidence using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters and logic analysers.
• A methodical approach to component-level fault-finding.
• The ability to clearly document technical findings, procedures and design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Integration and device trees.
• Designing analogue, power supply, protection and signal-conditioning circuits.
• Selecting components and managing bills of materials and supplier requirements.
• Applying design-for-manufacture and design-for-test principles.
• Building automated production test jigs and maintaining Python-based test systems.
• Designing schematics and multilayer PCBs using Altium Designer.
• Developing embedded firmware in C for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
• Working with embedded Linux platforms, peripheral integration.
• Prototyping, assembling and characterising hardware.
• Conducting structured root-cause analysis of production and field faults.
• Supporting PCB assembly reviews, production yields and manufacturing processes.
