About the opportunity

The Group Director, Mission & Pastoral Care will provide expertise and leadership in the area of Mercy Health’s identity as a ministry of the Catholic Church. The role will collaborate with the Executive Director Mission, Communications and Stakeholder Relations and leadership teams on the development, coordination, and delivery of formation programs, and to ensure the identity and charism that inspires Mercy ministries today, and the adoption of Catholic Social Teachings is strengthened across the organisation.

  • Demonstrates an innovative approach to embedding and integrating mission into processes, policies, and procedures to help shape the culture.
  • Provides support, direction, advice, mentoring and guidance on mission, values, and formation in faith for leaders and their teams to assist them in their responsibility to understand, promote and practice in accordance with the philosophy and ethos of the Catholic Church, and the mission and values of Mercy Health.
  • Ensures mission and formation process is evident across Mercy Health.
  • Lead the Pastoral Care function of Mercy Health which comprises of two direct reports and forty indirect reports.
What you’ll bring

We are seeking a senior leader with considerable experience in mission‑based organisations who can evidence their practical experience, knowledge and understanding of the application of Catholic theology, social teaching principles and contemporary teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Well‑formed and active role in the Catholic faith
  • Practices with a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Knowledge about contemporary health and aged care
  • A sound understanding of organisational culture, practices, and issues
  • Ability to establish and build trusted and effective working relationships and partnerships

You will also hold a relevant degree or equivalent experience in addition to specialist qualifications in theology, education, and culture change.
