Brisbane Catholic Education’s St Mary’s Primary School in Laidley is seeking a dedicated Grounds Service Officer to maintain vibrant grounds, play surfaces and ovals. The role supports sports events, involves operating light machinery, and keeps equipment up to date with the grounds plan.

Part-time, permanent, with starting November 2026. The position offers 24 hours per week, a start date in November 2026, and a salary of $32.50 per hour plus 12.75% super.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of maintaining playing surfaces, fertilising and turfing.
• Assist in preparing ovals for sporting events and carnivals.
• Experience safely operating and maintaining small machinery.
• Experience with equipment and plant maintenance per grounds plan.
• Ability to order and purchase materials for maintenance tasks.
• Certificate III or apprenticeship completed; non-Catholic applicants welcome.

St Mary's School, Laidley is seeking a dedicated Grounds Service Officer to support the presentation, maintenance and enhancement of our grounds and outdoor facilities.

About the opportunity

In this position you will be responsible for:

• Assisting in the maintenance of playing surfaces, including setting up of greens, top dressing, fertilising under supervision, seeding, turfing, coring, and sprigging
• Assisting in the preparation of ovals for sporting events and carnivals
• Safely operate and maintain small machinery and plant, as required, considering the risk to self and others
• Assisting in the equipment and plant maintenance repairs including carrying out tasks allotted under the grounds and gardens maintenance plan
• Assisting in the ordering and purchase of materials.

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

• Knowledge of maintaining playing surfaces, including fertilising, seeding, and turfing
• Ability to assist in preparing ovals for sporting events and carnivals
• Skilled in safely operating and maintaining small machinery, ensuring safety for all
• Experience in equipment and plant maintenance, following the grounds maintenance plan
• Ability to assist in ordering and purchasing materials for maintenance tasks
• Relevant tertiary qualifications at Certificate III level, or completion of an apprenticeship
• For this position you are not required to be Catholic.

• Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
• Hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement.
