Job summary

MPK is seeking a motivated Graduate HSE Advisor to join the Surat Basin team on a 19:9 roster. The role focuses on developing foundational safety management skills and involves working with experienced safety professionals on large-scale projects in the resources and construction sectors.

Reporting to the Project HSE Manager, you will receive training, mentorship, and guidance to build competencies in risk assessment, incident investigation, compliance, and safety administration.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Work Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
• First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Current Driver’s Licence – Class C and White Card.
• Investigations training such as ICAM desirable or willingness to obtain.
• Desirable training in D&A testing or TAE certification.

Responsibilities

• Learn and apply project HSE policies and risk management processes.
• Assist site inspections, hazard identification and safety audits.
• Support incident reporting, data collection and learning reviews.
• Help prepare pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Observe risk assessments, JHAs and SWMS.
• Assist with safety administration, document control and data entry.
• Support subcontractor safety documentation and performance verification.
• Participate in mentorship and training programs.
• Support return-to-work and injury management under supervision.
• Develop communication with personnel at all levels.

Job Description

MPK is seeking a highly motivated Graduate HSE Advisor to join our team based in the Surat Basin on a 19:9 and develop their career in the resources and construction industry. This is a developmental role, designed for individuals with a strong passion for safety, a willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude toward improving workplace health, safety, and environmental performance.

About the Role:

This role provides hands-on experience and structured development in a large-scale, fast-paced project environment. Reporting to the Project HSE Manager, the Graduate HSE Advisor will be given the training, mentorship, and guidance needed to build foundational skills in safety management, risk assessment, incident investigation, and compliance monitoring.

While prior FIFO/DIDO experience is not required, working in a remote environment comes with unique challenges, and adaptability to site conditions is essential. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced safety professionals, field supervision, and operational teams to gain practical exposure to all aspects of HSE.

Key responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

• Learning and applying project HSE policies, procedures, and risk management processes under the guidance of senior team members.
• Assisting in site inspections, hazard identification, and safety audits to develop an understanding of compliance requirements.
• Supporting the incident reporting and investigation process, including data collection, documentation, and learning review participation.
• Helping to prepare and deliver pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings alongside senior personnel.
• Observing and supporting risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
• Assisting with administrative tasks related to safety management systems, including document control, maintaining compliance records, and data entry into INX or other safety systems.
• Developing a strong understanding of HSE reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in data submission.
• Learning how to manage subcontractor compliance documentation and supporting verification of their safety performance.
• Participating in mentorship and training programs to build technical knowledge and confidence in safety advisory responsibilities.
• Supporting the return-to-work and injury management process, under supervision.
• Developing communication skills to engage with personnel at all levels and foster a strong safety culture.
• Seeking guidance when needed and demonstrating a proactive, problem-solving mindset when tackling new challenges.

A key part of developing as an HSE professional involves understanding the administrative and compliance aspects of safety, as well as actively engaging in fieldwork. This role will provide exposure to both areas, ensuring a well-rounded foundation in HSE.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree or Diploma in Work Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
• Workplace First Aid / CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Current State/Territory Driver’s License – Class C.
• Construction Industry White Card (or willingness to obtain).
• Incident Investigation Training (desirable or willingness to obtain).
• ICAM investigation training (desirable).
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or 40122) (desirable or willingness to obtain).
• Certification in a recognised Drug and Alcohol testing program (desirable or willingness to obtain).
