Job summary

Banana Shire Council in Central Queensland seeks a skilled grader operator to support road construction and maintenance projects.

You will operate grader and related plant, follow plans and traffic control plans, maintain records, and work with a team to deliver safe, quality outcomes.

This role requires a current HR licence, ITMP, traffic control and grader competency, and a commitment to WHS and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Current Qld HR driver's licence.
• Certificate of Competency – Grader.
• Implement Traffic Management Plans (ITMP) Qualification.
• Traffic Control Licence.
• Other plant tickets.
• Demonstrated experience operating a grader with guidance systems.
• Experience with heavy vehicles in maintenance/construction work.
• Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
• Able to work in a team with WHS compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality specialist plant operation services including road construction and maintenance.
• Maintain and service plant and equipment daily.
• Keep a daily diary of plant movements and follow procedures.
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions.
• Undertake traffic control and implement plans as required.
• Liaise with staff and clients to improve work practices and public relations.
• Assist senior staff and participate in training and disaster response as needed.

To efficiently operate a grader to meet required standards on maintenance and construction projects.

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide high quality specialist plant operation services including road construction and maintenance
• Maintain a high standard and consistent approach with the usage of all Council’s plant
• Maintain and service plant and equipment on a daily basis, in accordance with operating procedures
• Provide support in the operation of other plant and equipment, as required
• Carry out general labouring duties, as required
• Maintain a daily diary of plant movements
• Comply with Council operating procedures and site specific work plans
• Allow reconciliation to materials issued to work sites
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions
• Undertake traffic control and implement traffic control plans, as required
• Liaise with workplace representative and employees to continuously improve work practices
• Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
• Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information
• Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position e.g. timesheets
• Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices, as required
• Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery, as required
• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS

Compulsory

• Current Qld Class ‘HR’ driver’s licence
• Qld General Safety Induction (White or Blue Card)
• Certificate of Competency – Grader.
• Implement Traffic Management Plans (ITMP) Qualification
• Traffic Control Licence
• Other plant tickets.

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Compulsory

• Demonstrated experience in the effective operation of a grader (assessed to meet final trim standards) and the use of Machine Guidance Systems within a construction and maintenance infrastructure environment
• Experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance or construction infrastructure environment
• Sound literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills and ability undertake Learning and Development opportunities as required
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under minimal supervision
• Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
