Job summary

BG&E Part of SYSTRA in South Australia is seeking an experienced or Senior Geotechnical Engineer with transport experience to join our growing team. You will work on diverse projects including foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, pavements and rail track formations, applying Australian standards and delivering practical, buildable designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Engineering Geology.
• 7+ years of geotechnical experience in Australia, multi-disciplinary context.
• CPEng or working towards accreditation.
• Foundation solutions and ground conditions interpretation; FE analysis.
• Desirable experience on major infrastructure projects including rail and pavement design.

Responsibilities

• Develop geotechnical design solutions for diverse projects.
• Prepare reports, specifications, and site investigation briefs.
• Draft proposals with attention to commercial aspects and project quoting.
• Undertake geotechnical design on simple to complex scenarios using FE analysis.
• Manage small to medium projects including budgeting, forecasting and invoicing.
• Conduct site visits for construction phase services and bid meetings.
• Collaborate with external partners, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Be part of BG&E's National Geotechnical team and support regional projects.

We have an excellent opportunity for an Experienced or Senior-level Geotechnical Engineer with transport experinece to become a key member of our team. If you have strong technical skills, a great all-rounder and a knack for relationship building, we'd love to hear from you!

About the Role

In this role, you will apply your expertise to a diverse range of projects, including the design of temporary and permanent foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, pavements, ground improvement, rail track formations and integrated solutions for deep basements and tall buildings. Your solid understanding of Australian Standards and local geotechnical experience will be an essential component of your role. What to expect day to day:

• Develop effective geotechnical design solutions across various scenarios and sectors.
• Prepare reports, specifications, and site investigation briefs.
• Draft proposals with attention to commercial aspects and project quoting.
• Undertake geotechnical design on simple and complex situations including proficient use of finite element analysis
• Manage small to medium projects from inception, including budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing.
• Conduct site visits for construction phase services, bid meetings, and pavement condition assessments, with occasional short-term interstate travel.
• Collaborate confidently with external partners, clients, and internal stakeholders, and communicate effectively.
• Assist the BG&E South Australian team and the Victorian Geotechnical Lead in client relationship development, team training and mentoring, and fostering strong interdisciplinary relationships.
• Be a key member of BG&E's National Geotechnical team and be involved in a range of projects nationally

About You

• A minimum of bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Engineering Geology
• Ideally 7+ years of relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering within a Australian based multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, ideally in South Australia
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or be working towards CPEng accreditation
• Strong technical background and analytical skills in:
• Foundation solutions (e.g., deep foundations, rafts, piled rafts, etc.).
• Engineering Geology and / or Geotechnical interpretation of ground conditions
• Soil-structure interaction and finite element analysis
• Deep excavations.
• Retaining wall design and construction.
• Pavement Design and Construction
• Rail Track Formation design
• Geotechnical Construction Phase services
• Proficiency in using software packages such as: Slope/W or equivalent; Plaxis 2D & 3D or equivalent; Wallap or equivalent; RS Pile, DeepEx, Leapfrog etc
• Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards and guidelines, particularly the Australian Bridge Code AS5100, piling design AS2159 and local South Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) Standards and Specifications
• Experience in detailed design stage in major infrastructure projects from a multi-disciplinary background is desirable.
