Job summary

Iluka Balranald Operations is seeking a Mine Geologist to provide technical expertise for optimal recovery and product quality at the Balranald site. This permanent role is on an 8:6 FIFO or DIDO roster, Wednesday to Wednesday.

You will deliver daily to annual geological reports, coordinate drilling, mapping, sampling, and maintain the geological resource model across active zones. Join a team focused on innovative, low-impact mining with relocation support available.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geology or related discipline.
• Experience with geological packages (Datamine/Deswik) and MS Office.
• Experience in geological interpretation and ore definition modelling.
• Exposure to production reconciliation packages (InSite) is desirable.
• Experience in mining operation preferred.
• Experience in mineral sands desired.

• Conduct grade control activities to support accurate ore extraction.
• Manage HDD/M ore grade processes and reporting.
• Prepare and deliver daily, weekly, monthly, and annual production and geological reports.
• Oversee and coordinate drilling programs: planning, execution, monitoring.

• Contribute to and maintain reserve modelling.
• Maintain an up-to-date geological resource model for all active mining zones.

About the location

Iluka’s Balranald operation is located in the Riverina district of south western New South Wales. The development is focused on the rutile and zircon rich West Balranald deposit, which also contains material quantities of rare earth minerals.

Owing to its relative depth (approximately 60 metres below surface), Iluka has over several years assessed the potential to develop West Balranald via a novel, remotely operated, underground mining (UGM) technology.

Iluka’s UGM technology is akin to keyhole surgery for the mining of critical minerals. This enables access to ore bodies previously thought uneconomic, with marked reductions in both environmental disturbance and carbon intensity relative to traditional mineral sands extraction techniques, which are themselves less impactful than other commodities.

You can choose to reside locally, or fly-in fly-out from Melbourne. For South Australian residents we will mobilise you via road transport from our Iluka office in Adelaide.

About the role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager the Mine Geologist provides technical expertise on practical mining solutions to ensure recovery is maximised and that product qualities are maintained to provide Iluka with optimum income.

This position is offered on a permanent basis on an 8:6 FIFO or DIDO roster, Wednesday to Wednesday.

Your accountabilities will include:

• Conducting grade control activities to support accurate ore extraction
• Managing HDD/M ore grade processes
• Preparing and delivering daily, weekly, monthly, and annual production and geological reports
• Overseeing and coordinating drilling programs, including planning, execution, and monitoring
• Performing mapping, sampling, and geological interpretation of active mining areas
• Completing reconciliation of mined material against resource and reserve models
• Contributing to and maintaining reserve modelling
• Maintaining an up-to-date geological resource model for all active mining zones

About you

• Degree in Geology or related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in computer based Geological packages (i.e. Datamine, or Deswik) and Microsoft suite of software
• Experience in geological interpretation and Modelling for ore definition
• Exposure to production reconciliation packages (particularly InSite) is highly desirable
• Experience in mining operation, preferred
• Experience in mineral sands, desired
