Job summary

Barwon Health in Geelong, Victoria, invites applications for the General Surgery Fellow/Upper GI Hepatobiliary 2027. This 12-month fellowship targets senior surgical trainees with FRACS or an equivalent qualification, offering high-volume surgical experience at a major regional teaching hospital.

Fellows will operate at University Hospital Geelong and Epworth Private Hospital Waurn Ponds, participate in on-call rosters, and contribute to supervision of junior staff within a multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• FRACS or equivalent specialist qualification required.
• Eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia (AHPRA).
• Significant postgraduate experience in General Surgery or similar setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in General Surgery with subspecialty interest.
• Proven leadership and ability to support junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day clinical management of surgical units, including inpatient care and referrals.
• Participate in operating theatre sessions, outpatient clinics and endoscopy services.
• Attend promptly to urgent and emergency presentations and plan admissions.
• Liaise with Consultant Surgeons and supervise junior medical staff, including registrars and interns.
• Contribute to after-hours rosters and on-call duties; assist in education and unit administration.
• Engage in continuing medical education and quality improvement activities.
