Job summary

Wavelength is seeking a GP VMO with Emergency Skills to cover the ED and ward at Cobar Rural Health Service in New South Wales. The role includes 24/7 on-call coverage with in-person triage (Categories 1–5) and overnight ED reviews. On-site accommodation is provided, with travel organised through the agency.

You will deliver emergency, trauma, and adult & paediatric support, applying sound clinical judgement and clear communication with the care team. Eligibility for Medicare billing is required.

Qualifications

• GP VMO with Emergency Department experience is required.
• Emergency, Trauma, Adult & Paediatric support duties.
• Sound clinical judgement and effective communication with staff and patients.

Responsibilities

• Be the sole Doctor on call 24/7; respond to triage categories 1–5 in person per shift.
• Attend ED reviews and ward rounds; review inpatients as needed.
• On-call to attend deteriorating patients and provide ED coverage, including overnight shifts and after-hours duties.

Experience:

Emergency, Trauma, Adult & Paediatric Support, sound clinical judgement and communicate appropriately.

On-call requirements:

You will be the sole Doctor on call 24/7. You as the Locum Doctor will be called in for all triage categories (1s to 5s) in-person between 0800 hrs and 2000 hrs.Overnight from 2000 hrs until 0800 hrs the locum doctor will be required to review all Category 1, 2 and 3 ED Presentations in-person. Overnight from 2000 hrs until 0800 hrs you will be responsible for Category 4 and 5 ED Presentations, an in-person review will be at your discretion. However you will be required to attend if a clinician or the Registered Nurse calls you requesting your presence. On-call will also require you at all times to attend inpatients that are deteriorating. vCare are available in emergency situations (1800 492 227) Hours required to be on-site: 8am ward rounds, followed by ED reviews etc - finish time to be negotiated with site. Must return to the ED when requested by nursing staff at any time.

Full billings or refer and request billing rights acceptable.

Cobar is a small rural health service with a built capacity of 10 acute/subacute beds. Services provided include:

• 24 hour emergency care
• Acute and subacute inpatient services including rehabilitation, respite and palliative care

• Community Health – wound management, medication delivery, hospital in the home, chronic disease case management and palliative care
• Child and family health – immunisation, child health checks, referral resource -Specialist medical and Allied Health visit as part of an outreach service from Dubbo and Orange.
