General Manager, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
Sydney Local Health District
Band 2

Join our Sydney Local Health District Executive Team at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for an exciting opportunity to lead one of Australia's most prestigious and pioneering hospitals and shape what comes next.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is seeking an exceptional senior health leader to take on the role of General Manager and lead the next chapter of one of Australia’s most clinically distinguished hospitals serving our local community and beyond.
This is an opportunity to lead at scale - bringing together clinical excellence, patient-centred care, innovation, research, education and operational performance to deliver outstanding outcomes for patients, families, staff and the communities we serve.

Why this role?
  • Lead at scale - provide strategic and operational leadership across a major tertiary and quaternary hospital within Australia's largest public health system.
  • Shape the future - drive transformation, innovation and service improvement in an environment where research, education and world-class clinical care intersect.

Make a lasting impact - inspire a diverse workforce and build strong partnerships with clinicians, consumers, universities, research organisations, government and the broader health system.

This is a high-profile executive leadership opportunity for a leader who is energised by complexity, committed to excellence and motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to health outcomes across NSW.

About Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is a major tertiary and quaternary referral hospital, nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of excellence in clinical care, research and education.
As part of Sydney Local Health District, RPA provides a broad and highly complex range of health services including at the state level and plays a critical role in the NSW health system. The hospital has a strong tradition of clinical excellence and innovation and is closely connected with leading research and education partners.
RPA is also a place where some of the most complex health challenges are addressed every day - requiring exceptional leadership, collaboration and a relentless focus on patients and their experience of care.

About the role

As General Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, working closely with clinical leaders, senior executives, staff, consumers and system partners to deliver safe, high-quality and sustainable health services.
You will lead a complex portfolio in an environment of significant scale and public importance, balancing immediate operational priorities with longer-term transformation and service development.
Your leadership will help create the conditions for clinical excellence, workforce capability and wellbeing, innovation and continuous improvement, while ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability and accountability for performance.
This is a role for a leader who can move confidently between strategy and delivery; build trust across diverse stakeholders; navigate complexity; look after and bring our exceptional workforce and partners with them through change.
Most importantly, you will help create an environment where patients receive excellent care and our people are supported to do their best work.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the future of one of Australia's leading public hospitals - and to the broader transformation of health care in NSW.

About you

You are an accomplished senior executive with the leadership capability, judgement and credibility to operate successfully in a complex health environment.

You will bring
  • Executive leadership experience in a large, complex health service, hospital or comparable organisation, with a demonstrated ability to lead at scale.
  • A strong track record of delivering results, translating strategy into action while maintaining a clear focus on quality, safety, performance and patient outcomes.
  • Exceptional relationship and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships with clinicians, executives, staff, patients & consumers, government and external organisations.
  • Change and transformation leadership capability, including the ability to lead through complexity, build organisational capability and create momentum for improvement.
  • A values-led leadership style, with a genuine commitment to inclusion, workforce engagement and wellbeing, clinical excellence and patient-centred care.

You will be comfortable operating in an environment where no two days are the same, where competing priorities require sound judgement, and where leadership is measured not only by what is delivered, but by how it is delivered.

The opportunity

This is an ongoing, full-time Band 2 Health Service Senior Executive (HSSE) role.
An attractive remuneration package within the range of $307,591 to $346,133 per annum (SOORT 2026), with annual performance reviews, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
