Job description
The Company

Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained by a leading aged care provider in Tasmania to appoint a strategic and hands‑on General Manager Risk & Compliance to provide executive leadership and strategic oversight across its enterprise risk, compliance, quality, and governance functions. The role will be based in Hobart.

As one of the state’s largest not‑for‑profit aged care providers, offering aged care, retirement living, home care, respite, and allied health services across multiple sites, the organisation is built on a culture of kindness, openness, adaptability, respect, and enjoyment at work.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board, this role acts as a trusted advisor, promoting ethical decision making, organisational integrity and resilience.

You will lead the development of robust frameworks and processes that underpin statutory compliance, governance excellence, and a strong risk culture. This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives on influencing strategy and embedding best practice across the organisation.

Key Areas of Focus
Enterprise Risk Management & Governance
  • Lead the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, maintain and monitor the enterprise risk register, and promote a strong risk and compliance culture through education and transparent reporting.
Legal & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with key legislation including the Aged Care Act 2024, Corporations Act, ACNC requirements, WHS, Privacy, and Fair Work Acts, while providing in‑house legal advice and managing contractual and governance matters.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive the organisation’s Quality and Continuous Improvement Framework by ensuring policies and procedures remain current, compliant, overseeing compliance audits, and embedding consumer and workforce feedback into quality initiatives.
Board Support
  • Maintain statutory registers and other corporate governance records, advise on governance practices and statutory obligations, and support induction, training, and transparent Board reporting.
Reporting & Assurance
  • Deliver timely, accurate reports on risk, compliance, governance, and legal matters; coordinate internal and external, accreditation, and regulatory reviews; and provide independent assurance to the Board that statutory obligations, governance requirements, and risk frameworks are effective.
Your Profile

The ideal individual will be an experienced enterprise risk leader with a strong background in highly regulated environments, preferably aged care, but health, NDIS, childcare, or other not‑for‑profit sectors are also relevant. The role works closely with clinical risk, so an understanding of clinical risk is desirable. They should have held similar enterprise risk roles in comparable industries, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and strengthen risk governance practices.

Critical to success is the ability to build organisational capability and foster a proactive risk culture, guiding and supporting teams to confidently embed effective risk management practices.

They will be passionate about aged care and its positive impact on the community, approaching the role with energy and integrity.

In addition, they will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Risk Management, Governance, Business or related discipline. Postgraduate or professional qualifications (e.g., GAICD, GIA, CPA, CA, MBA) is desirable.
  • 5+ years’ senior leadership experience overseeing risk, compliance, quality, and governance ideally in an aged care environment.
  • Expert knowledge of statutory and regulatory obligations relevant to aged care and not‑for‑profit sectors.
  • Proven ability to design and embed integrated risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex legislation and providing practical, solutions‑focused advice at Executive and Board level.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with regulators, auditors, Boards, and operational leaders.
  • An understanding of the compliance requirements within the Aged Care Act 2024, ASIC, and ACNC requirements would be advantageous.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and forward‑thinking, thriving in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • NDIS endorsement and police checks are required.

For ambitious leaders, this highly visible role will provide access to Board level, creating opportunities for career development.

Your application will be assessed within 3-5 working days. Please note only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
