Lead major housing, water, roads, airport, and community infrastructure projects that make a visible difference every day.
Aurukun Shire Council is a progressive and growing organisation delivering essential services, infrastructure, and opportunities to a close-knit Indigenous community on Cape York. With a workforce of more than 120 employees, an annual budget of approximately $30 million and a strong vision for the future, Council is focused on creating sustainable outcomes that strengthen wellbeing, build resilience and support long-term community prosperity.
This is a Council with ambition. Significant funding has been secured for housing, water, wastewater, and community infrastructure projects, creating an exciting period of growth and investment. As part of a dynamic Executive Leadership Team, you will work alongside leaders who are committed to action, collaboration and achieving tangible results for the community.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager Infrastructure Services is responsible for leading the planning, delivery and maintenance of critical community assets and services, including roads, buildings, housing, water and sewerage infrastructure, airport operations, waste management, fleet, and disaster preparedness.
This is a broad and highly influential executive role where your leadership will help deliver a substantial capital works and infrastructure program. You will guide experienced managers, oversee major projects, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure infrastructure investments translate into meaningful outcomes for the people of Aurukun.
You are an accomplished engineer and infrastructure leader who combines strong technical capability with a genuine commitment to people, partnerships, and community outcomes. Whether your experience has been gained in local government, state government, or a similarly complex environment, you bring the credibility, resilience and leadership needed to succeed in a diverse and rewarding setting.
Most importantly, you are a hands-on, outcome-focused executive who enjoys solving problems, building capable teams, and leading through influence. You thrive in environments where relationships matter, challenges become opportunities and your work creates a lasting legacy. Experience working with Aboriginal communities and a respect for their cultural values and traditions will be highly regarded.
Few executive opportunities offer the combination of professional challenge, career growth, and genuine community impact available in Aurukun. Here, you will have the opportunity to deliver transformational infrastructure programs, influence the future direction of a growing Council, and see the results of your work reflected directly in the lives of local residents.
You will be supported by a stable executive team, strong middle management capability and a CEO who is recognised for being action-oriented, inclusive, and committed to developing his people. With an attractive executive package, quality housing, a vehicle, and the chance to experience one of Australia's most unique communities, this is far more than a job. It is an opportunity to make a difference, build a legacy and be part of something truly meaningful.
Applications will close at 10pm on Monday 2nd November 2026.
