Job summary

Fortescue is seeking a Software Developer to join the Green Systems Development Team in Perth, WA. You will build cloud-based applications for energy balance modelling, geospatial tracking, forecasting and data analysis, enabling informed decision-making across Energy Operations and Planning teams.

You’ll work across the full software lifecycle in an agile environment, collaborating with Fortescue IT, internal users and external vendors to deliver practical, secure software solutions tailored to

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience developing custom software, including full-stack applications and backend APIs.
• Strong Python skills and experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and a modern framework such as Angular, Vue or React.
• Experience with AWS, relational databases and SQL, plus Git/GitHub and agile development.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming and secure software practices.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with AWS services, PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, Snowflake, CI/CD, DevOps, testing, infrastructure as code, Terraform, Docker or Jira would be an advantage.
• Experience with large-scale data solutions, energy or mining, AI, machine learning or optimisation, and AWS certifications is also desirable.

• Build full-stack software solutions for new and evolving business needs.
• Contribute to the team’s technical frameworks, design principles and ways of working.
• Develop and maintain application functionality and backend APIs.
• Help ensure solutions are secure, well-tested, robust and maintainable.
• Turn user stories and requirements into technical tasks and estimates.
• Work with an agile team to deliver against the development backlog.
• Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation, including design decisions, specifications, release notes and support handovers.
• Contribute ideas and initiatives that improve our software and development practice s.
