Opex Consulting is a dynamic company speaking to the here-and-now needs of the financial services industry. We have launched iff (https://iffadvice.com.au/) a next generation advice tool, another example of our innovation. This product has used remote developers in the main for its development. We want to expand the development team and have senior Adelaide-based staff to support its evolution.
Opex Consulting consists of 20+ Australian based dedicated staff who are committed to transforming the world of financial services. We were founded on providing Xplan software support, training, and consulting services to aid in reducing business costs and improving efficiency. iff is our next offering to further improve the advice process for both clients and advisers.
Our head office is located in the Adelaide CBD with end-of-trip facilities and comes complete with table tennis table, Nintendo Switch, and coffee machine, among many other facilities made available to the team. About the role
Opex Consulting has developed a product called iff, Informed Financial Future. It's a revolutionary software tool for financial advisers designed to provide:
- a better client experience which is simple, engaging, and interactive
- consistent and diligent advice in a heavily regulated market
- quicker production of advice documents due to less data entry, automated modelling, and text.
The role is for a software developer to be part of the core product team, collaborating mainly on the calculation and modelling engine behind iff, working towards our future strategic plans for the software product.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate closely with the iff Product Owners and Head of Technology to translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with the overall product vision and strategic goals.
- Act as a key liaison between onshore leadership and offshore development teams, facilitating clear communication and efficient workflow across time zones.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain robust full stack solutions using .NET for back-end and Angular for front-end, following best practices in coding, security, and performance.
- Contribute to the architecture and optimisation of database systems, ensuring data integrity and scalability.
- Develop and integrate AWS services, including Lambda functions, RDS Aurora and EKS, to enhance product functionality and reliability.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning and retrospectives, providing technical insights and estimates for upcoming work.
- Review code written by offshore developers, mentor junior team members, and uphold high standards of code quality and documentation.
- Assist with quality assurance processes, including unit and integration testing, to ensure smooth product releases and minimal defects.
- Support the Advice Solutions product roadmap by identifying technical improvements and proactively addressing potential risks or bottlenecks.
- Contribute to product support activities, such as troubleshooting, updating training materials, and assisting with user/internal team queries as needed.
- Monitor and attend to AWS infrastructure maintenance tasks when required working with the internal and external IT teams.
- Document & maintain API specifications and technical specifications.
- Participate and/or oversee functional and technical deployments.
- Monitor system health, performance and security and report back on any findings, remediate critical issues and collaborate with the Head of Technology on strategy to resolve them.

- Minimum 5+ years commercial experience as a software developer.
- Experience leading a small team both onshore and offshore.
- Experience with the Agile methodology.
- Experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience in Microservice Architecture.
- Experience in C# .NET, MySQL, and AngularJS.
- Working with design & development of backend APIs.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Experience in Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence).
- Experience in working with financial technology platforms, preferably financial planning or modelling software.
- Understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
- Experience in working with Github & Git flow.
- Experience utilising DevSecOps platforms and tools.
- Australian work rights are required for this position.

Work Location
This position is Adelaide based. Standard working hours apply although there may be some out of hours work required. You will be required to be in the office full time for the first 3 months before hybrid working arrangements will be considered. Only suitable candidates will be contacted.
