Job description

Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) is at the forefront of global efforts to build the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer, while delivering quantum-enhanced AI and simulation products to customers today.

Backed by over 25 years of technological excellence, SQC is a full-stack quantum computing company that leverages its proprietary manufacturing process to engineer atomic qubits in silicon with 0.13 nanometer precision. It is the most precise semiconductor manufacturing in the world, enabling systems with world-leading algorithmic fidelity, and a decisive advantage in the global quantum computing race.

Our products are commercially deployed and generating revenue. Watermelon, our quantum-enhanced AI system, is delivering superior results on real-world problems across energy, telecom and finance. Quantum Twins, our simulation platform, provides unparalleled ability to model quantum systems, accelerating molecule and materials discovery.

This is SQC: building the future of computing while delivering quantum impact today.

About the role

SQC's financial planning has, until now, sat across other roles in the Finance team. As FP&A Manager, reporting to the Finance Director, you will build the function from the ground up, owning the modelling and analysis that underpins SQC's financial planning, from the annual budget and rolling forecasts through to Board reporting and project-level cost tracking.

Based at our Sydney facility, you will work closely with budget holders across research, engineering and operations, translating operational activity into financial insight the business can act on. You will shape how FP&A works at SQC in a fast-scaling, deep-tech company with a genuinely complex operating and reporting environment, spanning dual AASB and US GAAP frameworks.

This is a role for someone senior enough to engage confidently with management and team leads on financial strategy, and equally comfortable being the person who builds the model, checks the formula and gets the numbers right.

Role responsibilities
  • Own the design, build and maintenance of SQC's core financial models, including the annual budget, rolling forecasts and long-range plan, across AASB and US GAAP reporting frameworks
  • Lead monthly management reporting, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards and commentary for the Finance Director, CFO and Executive team
  • Partner with team leads and budget holders across research, engineering and operations to build cost centre budgets, track spend against plan and provide accurate, timely forecasts
  • Develop and maintain capex and R&D spend models, including forecasting to support the R&D Tax Incentive claim and other grant funding
  • Build scenario and sensitivity models to support Board papers, funding decisions and major strategic initiatives
  • Design and implement FP&A processes, templates and a reporting cadence appropriate to a fast-scaling, increasingly complex organisation, building the function rather than inheriting it
  • Support the transition to NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (EPM), working with the Finance team and implementation partners to configure planning and reporting workflows
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis and business cases for management decisions, including cost-benefit, ROI and investment appraisal work
  • Act as a key link between Finance and the business, owning both the detailed inputs and the summary insight that goes to management
Your experience
  • Substantial FP&A, financial modelling or corporate finance experience, ideally including time in a scaling, technology or deep-tech environment
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills, with the ability to build complex models from scratch rather than maintain existing templates
  • Experience running budgeting, forecasting and management reporting cycles; exposure to dual US GAAP/AASB reporting or other multi-framework environments is a plus
  • Confidence engaging with senior management and team leads, translating financial detail into clear, decision-useful insight
  • A genuine willingness to own the detailed work: data-gathering, model-building and reconciliation, as well as the analysis and presentation
  • Comfortable operating without established FP&A processes and building them as you go; this is SQC's first dedicated FP&A hire
  • Familiarity with NetSuite, or the ability to get up to speed quickly
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, commerce or a related field; an engineering undergraduate degree combined with an MBA is also a strong fit. CA, CPA or CFA is a plus but not essential
Equal opportunity

SQC is an equal opportunity employer. We value diverse perspectives and experiences, and encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every listed requirement. If you’re excited about the role and believe you can contribute, we encourage you to apply.

Export controls

This position may require access to export-controlled information or technology. Employment may be subject to applicable export control laws and may require eligibility assessment based on factors such as nationality, citizenship, or residency, and, where necessary, obtaining relevant export licenses or approvals.

About SQC

SQC was founded by renowned physicist and materials scientist Michelle Simmons, who pioneered the field of atomic electronics, including the development of the world’s first single-atom transistor and the first integrated circuit built with atomic precision. Our Chair, Simon Segars, former CEO of Arm, is a leader in the semiconductor industry and was instrumental in developing the processors that powered the mobile computing revolution.

As a full-stack company with in-house QPU manufacturing, SQC can design, produce and test new quantum chips in under a week, enabling rapid iteration and a decisive advantage in the race to build the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer.

SQC is a high-accountability environment built on a simple principle: Every Atom Counts. If you’re looking to play a meaningful role in building the next frontier of computing, we’d love to hear from you.

SQC is willing and able to sponsor candidates in the event they do not hold working entitlements in the country the role is based.
