The public health service in Canberra is focused on first class, person-centred care. It provides this care in acute, sub-acute, primary and community settings throughout the ACT and nearby regions.The mental health service is looking for a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to work across all forensic settings in the Australian Capital Territory which includes the only adult all gender correctional centre in the territory - a minimum to maximum correctional centre - a youth detention centre for young people aged 12 to 21, and a unit which features 25 ( 10 acute and 15 subacute) high-security beds, specialised clinical areas, mental health court assessment liaison service and forensic consultation and intervention service.
You will provide first class psychiatric care, supervise and educate trainees and medical students, whilst taking a lead clinical role across multidisciplinary teams. You will define recovery plans, work closely with corrections, courts, GPs, community agencies and other stakeholders whilst contributing to service development projects and initiatives.
The mental health service has established research links with ANU, the University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University, and you may be considered for a conjoint academic appointment. There's an excellent medical library and established postgraduate teaching programs.
