Job summary

Floor Match Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Floor Finisher to join our Queensland team. The role involves measuring, preparing, installing, and finishing timber, hybrid, laminate and vinyl floors in residential and commercial settings.

You will read plans, prepare subfloors, install coverings, and ensure precise alignment and high-quality finishes while maintaining safety and customer satisfaction. A relevant trade qualification is required, with strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III and/or AQF Certificate IV in flooring/trade disciplines is required.
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant floor finishing experience may substitute for formal qualification.
• Experience with timber, hybrid, laminate and vinyl flooring is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Measure areas, review plans and site requirements to estimate materials.
• Prepare subfloors, install and finish floor coverings per specifications.
• Secure coverings with adhesives or fasteners and fit trims/edge profiles.

Job Description

FLOOR MATCH PTY LTD FLOOR MATCH PTY LTD is seeking a skilled and reliable Floor Finisher to join its flooring operations in Queensland. The successful candidate will be responsible for measuring, preparing, installing, repairing and finishing a range of floor coverings in residential and commercial environments. The role requires practical trade skills, accurate measurement and cutting, careful surface preparation, safe use of flooring tools and equipment, and a strong focus on workmanship, quality and customer satisfaction.

The position will work with flooring products including timber, hybrid, laminate and vinyl, together with associated preparation and finishing activities.

Task & responsibilities

Measure areas to be covered and review plans, job specifications and site requirements to estimate flooring materials and quantities. Inspect work areas and prepare subfloors by cleaning, levelling, repairing imperfections and removing existing trims or coverings where required. Measure, mark, cut and trim flooring materials accurately to suit room dimensions, layouts, fixtures and design requirements.

Measure, cut and install appropriate underlay materials before laying floor coverings. Install timber, hybrid, laminate, vinyl and other resilient floor coverings in accordance with manufacturer requirements and job specifications. Match flooring patterns, grain direction and joins, and cut around fixtures, corners, doorways and other obstructions.

Secure floor coverings using appropriate adhesives, fasteners, click-lock systems or other approved installation methods. Fit skirting, transition strips, trims and edge profiles at doorways and other finishing points. Sand, stain and apply finishing coatings to timber flooring where required.

Repair, replace or refinish damaged, worn or defective flooring and ensure completed work meets required quality standards. Use hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment and other flooring machinery safely and correctly. Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas and dispose of waste materials appropriately.

Follow workplace health and safety, manufacturer instructions and applicable site requirements. Inspect completed flooring for alignment, joins, edges, surface quality and overall finish before handover. Communicate professionally with supervisors, installers, customers and other trades on site.

Qualification & experience

AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in a relevant flooring/trade discipline. Minimum 1 years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. Demonstrated practical experience in measuring, cutting, preparing, installing and repairing floor coverings.

Experience with timber, hybrid, laminate and/or vinyl flooring is highly regarded. Ability to read job specifications, measurements, plans and flooring layouts. Competence in using flooring hand tools, power tools and installation equipment safely.

Good understanding of subfloor preparation, underlay, adhesives, trims and finishing techniques. Strong attention to detail, workmanship and quality control. Ability to work independently and as part of an installation team.

Good communication, reliability and time-management skills. Ability and willingness to work a minimum of 38 ordinary hours per week, with reasonable additional hours as required by operational needs. Relevant registration, licensing or site-specific requirements must be met where applicable.
