Our client in Somerton requires the services of an experienced Fitter.

Position Overview

The Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment to ensure maximum reliability and minimal downtime. The successful candidate will conduct both preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and optimize equipment performance, all while adhering to safety standards and operational guidelines.

Task & responsibilities

• Assembling, aligning, and installing machinery, mechanical components, and tools according to technical drawings and production requirements.
• Dismantling and reassembling equipment to inspect, repair, or replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Conducting routine and preventative maintenance to enhance equipment performance and lifespan.
• Testing machinery and equipment after repairs to ensure correct operation and compliance with safety standards.
• Reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to guide installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Collaborating with engineers, electricians, and other tradespeople to troubleshoot issues and optimise machinery performance.
• Supporting production goals by ensuring minimal downtime through efficient maintenance and prompt repair responses.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience as a Fitter (General) in a metal, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical fitting techniques, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
