Job summary

Berendsen Fluid Power is Australia’s largest provider of hydraulic solutions. Our Newcastle workshop is seeking a Fitter to join the team, performing hands-on repairs, builds and testing on customer equipment to a high standard.

You will mentor apprentices, operate workshop machinery, and ensure safety and quality in all tasks, with an early finish from 6:30am to 3:30pm and an RDO. This role offers career development within a national business.

Qualifications

• Hands-on workshop experience, ideally hydraulics or heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Capability to plan, prepare and write concise reports.
• Commitment to safe work practices and meeting timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Strip and inspect components, recording wear, damage, measurements and part numbers.
• Carry out repairs, rebuilds, assembly, disassembly, modifications and testing to specification.
• Read and interpret job specifications, drawings and schematics.
• Operate workshop machinery, hand tools and lifting equipment safely.
• Prepare clear strip and assess reports and service records on time.
• Direct and mentor trades assistants and apprentices.
• Meet chargeable labour and work centre recovery targets.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work area; follow WHS procedures.

You’ll be doing hands‑on repairs, builds and testing on customer equipment to a high standard, and helping bring the next generation of tradies through. Your Tasks

• Strip and inspect components, recording wear, damage, critical measurements and part numbers

• Complete clear, accurate strip and assess reports and service records on time

• Maintain your tools, equipment and work area, and follow all WHS procedures

About You

• Trade qualification as a Fitter, or equivalent experience [CONFIRM: Cert III Mechanical Fitting / Heavy Diesel / other]
• Hands‑on workshop experience, ideally in hydraulics or heavy equipment
• Able to read and work from engineering drawings
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work with no warranty come‑backs
• Able to plan and prepare for jobs and write concise, accurate reports
• Comfortable working to agreed timeframes and chargeable hour targets
• Happy to guide apprentices and work collaboratively
• A genuine commitment to safe work practices
