Job summary

The New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) Fisheries Compliance Unit is seeking a Fisheries Officer to ensure fishers comply with fisheries rules, advise and educate where appropriate, and take enforcement actions when required.

You will allocate resources to meet compliance objectives, drive priorities, prepare prosecutions, and generate reports in line with Fisheries Compliance policies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of fisheries compliance
• Excellent communication and reporting skills
• Ability to liaise with stakeholders and present evidence

Responsibilities

• Assist in fisheries compliance activities using surveillance and evidence collection to meet district objectives
• Prepare evidence, prosecution briefs, and briefing notes; present evidence in court on behalf of DPIRD Fisheries
• Liaise with clients, the public, and stakeholders; escalate complex issues to supervision
• Participate in patrols and planned operations to optimise compliance outputs
• Contribute to educational programs on fishing, aquaculture, and conservation
• Maintain departmental equipment and materials in good condition
