Job summary

South Australia Police is seeking applications from First Nations Australians who want to make a real difference in communities. The Community Constable role provides frontline policing, supports police officers, and acts as a trusted link between community members and SA Police.

Training spans seven to eight months at the SA Police Academy, combining academy learning with on-the-job experience to build knowledge, practical skills and confidence to serve across South Australia.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be First Nations Australians and 17 years or older at time of application.
  • Hold a C class Australian Driver's Licence.
  • Meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirements.
  • Able to complete operational training and carry and use safety equipment, including a firearm.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage with First Nations communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cultural advice to enhance policing and community engagement.
  • Support police in operational responses, incidents, enquiries and preliminary investigations.
  • Perform directed policing to prevent and detect crime and maintain public safety.
  • Provide advice and support to police and community to resolve incidents safely.
  • Assist in planning and conducting operations and investigations with cultural insight.
  • Engage with local groups to support prevention initiatives.
  • Undertake an active role in traffic policing and road safety campaigns.
  • Support culturally informed policing through engagement with victims, offenders and youth processes.
