Job summary

UnitingCare Queensland’s FaDS team seeks a Financial Counsellor to join the Financial Resilience and Wellbeing Service in Rockhampton. You will provide confidential counselling to individuals and families facing financial hardship, helping them access government assistance and negotiate with creditors.

The role requires a Diploma in Financial Counselling, FCQ eligibility, a current driver's license and a Working with Children Check.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Financial Counselling is essential.
  • Completion of, or enrolment in, Problem Gambling Skill Set (CHCSS00111).
  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Experience building collaborative networks with health, mental health and community providers is highly regarded.
  • Eligibility for FCQ membership.

Financial Counsellor – Financial Resilience & Wellbeing Service, Rockhampton

Term: Maximum Term to 30 June 2027, Full-Time (38 hours per week) Location: Rockhampton Remuneration: $53.43 p/hr + Super + NFP Salary Packaging (save tax and increase your take home pay)

Our FaDS (Family and Disability Services) team work passionately across Queensland to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. We are seeking a Financial Counsellor to join our Financial Resilience and Wellbeing Service—a free, confidential service supporting individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, stress, anxiety, mental health challenges, and gambling harm. In this role, you will support those accessing the service to create positive and practical outcomes. The Financial Counsellor provides professional financial counselling services, assisting individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties. As a Financial Counsellor, you will

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the financial situation of individuals and families experiencing difficulties
  • Provide information regarding government assistance
  • Negotiation of repayment with creditors
  • Assistance in accessing community resources as required
  • Empower clients to manage their own financial situations and to deal with creditors through the provision of information on their rights and responsibilities
  • Advocate on behalf of the clients when required – in a manner that encourages independence and self‑sufficiency in clients
  • Engage proactively with community services and hard‑to‑reach individuals to ensure inclusive access
  • Contribute to community education initiatives that raise awareness of financial wellbeing issues
Key Qualifications
  • A Diploma in Financial Counselling is essential
  • Completion of, or current enrolment in, the Problem Gambling Skill Set (CHCSS00111)
  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and a non‑judgmental approach in all interactions, creating a space where individuals feel genuinely heard, respected, and empowered
  • Experience in building collaborative networks and working alongside health, mental health, and community support providers will be highly regarded
  • Eligibility for membership with Financial Counselling Queensland (FCQ)
  • Current drivers’ license
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
