Job summary

Ampcontrol is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to provide financial stewardship, commercial insight and strong governance across a key area of the business. This Sydney/Tomago based role partners with operational and project leaders to drive profitability and robust reporting, with interstate travel.

The position encompasses budgeting, forecasting, treasury oversight, month‑end reporting and project accounting, alongside process improvements and a focus on effective finance systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
• Experience in finance partnering, financial control and management accounting with end-to-end responsibility.
• Strong reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and balance sheet governance.
• Knowledge of project accounting: WIP, revenue recognition, cost-to-complete and margins.
• Experience with financial controls, compliance, audits and treasury.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary finance contact, delivering commercial insights and decision support.
• Partner with operations and project teams to improve profitability, cash flow and working capital.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning and monthly performance reviews.
• Manage month-end reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Oversee project accounting including WIP, revenue recognition and margins.
• Coordinate annual statements, audits and external advisory support.
• Manage cash flow visibility, banking and payment governance.
• Support tax/compliance obligations (BAS, PAYG, FBT, superannuation).
• Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations and reporting.
• Monitor AP/AR processes and maintain internal controls.
• Support D365 F&O transition and master data governance.
• Lead finance integration and continuous improvement.

Job description

Ampcontrol is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to provide financial stewardship, commercial insight and strong governance across a key area of the business.

This broad and influential role combines business partnering, financial control, project accounting, treasury oversight and finance leadership. Working closely with operational and project leaders, you’ll ensure accurate reporting, strong financial governance and effective finance systems and processes.

This role can be based out of Sydney or Tomago, Sydney-based candidates will occasionally be required to visit head office. Monthly interstate travel will also be required.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Act as the primary finance contact, providing leaders with commercial insights, financial advice and decision support.
• Partner with operational and project teams to improve profitability, cash flow, working capital and performance.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning and monthly performance reviews.
• Manage month‑end reporting, reconciliations, accounts, cash flow reporting and variance analysis.
• Oversee project accounting, including WIP, revenue recognition, cost‑to‑complete and margins.
• Coordinate annual financial statements, audits and external advisors.
• Manage cash flow visibility, banking, payment governance and bank guarantees.
• Support tax and compliance obligations, including BAS, PAYG, FBT, superannuation and statutory reporting.
• Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals and reporting.
• Monitor AP and AR processes, resolving issues and maintaining effective controls.
• Support the D365 F&O transition and improve systems, reporting and master data governance.
• Lead finance integration, process documentation, knowledge transfer, transition planning and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in finance partnering, financial control, management accounting or a similar role with end‑to‑end business unit or entity responsibility.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and balance sheet governance experience.
• Sound project accounting knowledge, including WIP, revenue recognition, cost‑to‑complete and margins.
• Experience managing financial controls, compliance, audits and treasury.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, timely outcomes.
• Strong systems, reporting and analytical capability.
• Excellent communication skills, including simplifying complex financial information.

Highly Regarded

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction, power, infrastructure or project‑based environments.
• Experience with mergers, acquisitions, integrations or finance transformation.
• Experience with D365 Finance & Operations, Power BI and advanced Excel.
• Experience leading finance transitions, process documentation and knowledge transfer.
