Qualifications

  • 8 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with leadership experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Lead budgeting process and monthly/quarterly forecasts with cross-functional input.
  • Maintain internal controls and compliance with statutory obligations and tax requirements.
  • Contribute to strategic financial management and identify cost-saving opportunities.

The Role

The Financial Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the company's financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and compliance. This role plays a critical part in providing strategic financial insights to guide decision-making and contribute to the organisation's overall financial health and growth.

What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting and Analysis
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Provide in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis against budget and forecast, to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Present financial reports and findings to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Budgeting And Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts (monthly, quarterly, rolling forecasts) in collaboration with other departments.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, providing detailed explanations for variances.
  • Develop and implement cash flow management strategies and projections.
Internal Controls And Compliance
  • Establish, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure data integrity, and prevent fraud.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory law, financial regulations, and tax requirements (e.g., BAS, FBT, company tax).
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory authorities, managing the audit process.
Strategic Financial Management
  • Contribute to strategic planning by providing financial insights and recommendations.
  • Identify business efficiencies, operational improvements, and cost-saving opportunities across the organisation.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) in Australia.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with a significant portion in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Strong background in financial management, auditing, or relevant accounting positions.
  • Experience in a similar growth-stage business is highly beneficial.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
