Job description

We're building aircraft that fly faster, further, and to space.

Hypersonix is an Australian aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing company building hydrogen-powered scramjet aircraft. We work at the bleeding edge of hypersonic technology, delivering aircraft that fly faster, reach further, and open new pathways to space - and we're a small, highly capable team doing work that genuinely matters.

The Opportunity

As our Financial Controller, you’ll play a key role in safeguarding the integrity of our financial operations, reporting, compliance and controls as we continue to scale. Working closely with the CFO and FP&A Manager, you’ll lead day-to-day finance operations, deliver accurate and timely financial insights, and support executive decision-making across the business. You’ll also guide and develop the finance team, driving a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.

This role would suit someone who’s recently moved into a Financial Controller position, or someone looking to step up from a Senior Financial Accountant. This is a rare opportunity to join a company working with cutting-edge hypersonic technology, directly supporting our teams to deliver exceptional engineering. If you thrive in a fast-paced, scaling environment and want to be a part of our journey, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note that this is a temporary position and will be offered as a 6 – 12 month fixed-term contract.

What you’ll own
Responsibilities include:
Financial reporting and month-end close
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual close process, ensuring accurate management accounts, journals, reconciliations, accounting adjustments, and general ledger integrity.
  • Deliver high-quality financial reporting to the CFO and Leadership Team, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and policies.
Statutory reporting and audit
  • Lead statutory reporting, including preparation of annual financial statements, technical accounting papers, and significant accounting judgements.
  • Manage external audit activities and financial requirements for government grant programs, coordinating audit requests and ensuring compliance.
Tax and regulatory compliance
  • Manage GST, income tax, FBT, payroll tax, R&D tax claims and other statutory obligations, ensuring finance compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate external tax advisors, review and approve tax filings and reconciliations, and monitor legislative changes impacting the organisation.
Internal controls and governance
  • Maintain a strong financial control framework, ensuring compliance with Delegations of Authority, procurement policies, segregation of duties, and financial risk controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and controls, supporting enterprise risk management activities.
Treasury and cash management
  • Oversee daily cash management, banking administration, payment controls, cashflow performance, and working capital metrics.
  • Support the CFO with liquidity planning and treasury activities, including monitoring foreign currency exposures and hedging where applicable.
  • Oversee the administration, accounting and reconciliation of employee equity incentive plans, ensuring ESS transactions, share-based payments and issued equity instruments are accurately reflected in financial records.
  • Manage share scheme reporting and compliance, liaising with external advisors, share registry providers and auditors, and supporting Board and Remuneration Committee.
Finance systems and process improvement
  • Act as Finance Process Owner for ERP and finance systems, maintaining financial controls within Business Central and related platforms.
  • Identify and implement finance process improvements, improving reporting automation, data quality, system upgrades and business transformation.
Leadership and team development
  • Lead and mentor the accounting and transactional finance team, building technical capability and setting clear objectives and performance expectations.
