Torrens University Australia is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our finance team in Sydney's Surry Hills. You will lead month-end journal entries, complete reconciliations, and assist with disclosures while partnering with BI and other finance teams to drive process improvements.

The role requires IFRS expertise, advanced Excel, and a strong control environment. You’ll support audits and external reporting in a dynamic, inclusive workplace that values collaboration and growth.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years’ relevant finance experience.
  • Current CA or CPA designation is mandatory.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS accounting standards; US GAAP exposure is an advantage.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft is a plus.
  • Experience with internal control environments in medium to large organisations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong problem solving and proactive attitude.
  • High level of integrity and business ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Assist with preparation of supplementary monthly and quarterly close deliverables.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Support external financial reporting including financial statements.
  • Handle ad hoc financial requests as required.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the close process.
  • Collaborate with FP&A to analyse actuals and inform the forecast.
  • Maintain SOX/internal control documentation and critical reports.

What’s the job?

Preparing month end journals and reconciliations across various areas which may include cash, intercompany, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and other financial statement line items as required by the Senior Financial Accountant and assisting with other month end and quarterly tasks including the preparation of disclosure packages and analytics.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

  • Assistancewith periodic internal and external audit requirements
  • Assistancewith external financial reporting requirementsincluding financial statements
  • Assistancewith ad hoc financial requests asrequired
  • Identification and implementation of improvements relating to close process
  • Work closely with the FP&A team to analyse and understand actuals/inform the forecast
  • Adherence to internal control (SOX) requirements including maintenance of critical reports and spreadsheets

This is a Permanent position located our Surry Hills, Sydney Campus.

Who you are
  • Minimum 3+ years’ relevant finance experience
  • Current CA or CPA designation is mandatory
  • Up to date and solid technical knowledge of IFRS accounting standards (US GAAP exposure is an advantage)
  • Advanced Excel
  • PeopleSoft (would be an advantage)
  • Experience operating within a well-established internal control environment in medium to large organisations.
  • Ability to work independently
