The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Our Financial Control & Procurement team plays a critical role in maintaining financial discipline and sustainability across the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme.

We are seeking a hands‑on Financial Accountant

to join our team on a full time fixed-term basis to cover leave in our Melbourne office. You will be responsible for month-end processing, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and statutory obligations. This is a great opportunity for a quick learner who enjoys working collaboratively, takes initiative, and demonstrates excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform month‑end journal processing and reconciliations across multiple ledgers.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data within Ahpra's accounting systems.
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and ad hoc analysis for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, auditors, and statutory bodies.
  • Maintain compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation, and audit requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

About you

This role is ideal for someone with strong technical accounting skills, who thrives in a complex environment and can hit the ground running. Essential criteria
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting.
  • Solid experience in month‑end financial accounting within complex, multi‑dimensional organisations.
  • Knowledge of Australian taxation and state/territory regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems, ERPs, and Microsoft Excel.
