KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial and Management Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial and management reports for senior management and key stakeholders
- Prepare annual accounts for audit and ensure timely completion of annual statutory reporting obligations
- Develop and enhance management information systems to provide meaningful financial insights
- Analyse financial performance against budget and forecasts, providing variance commentary and recommendations
ERP System Management and Process Improvement
- Manage and take ownership of the Finance ERP system (CargoWise), driving continuous improvements in reporting capabilities, automation, and data accuracy
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement system enhancements to improve efficiency
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and manage the performance of the Payroll and Accounts team, providing leadership, guidance, and support
- Train and mentor new accounting staff to ensure efficient onboarding and continuous professional development
- Conduct performance reviews and foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture
- Delegate tasks appropriately and monitor completion to ensure deadlines are met
Day-to-Day Financial Operations
- Monitor and oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial transactions
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial processing and resolve any operational issues
- Provide financial and analytical support to the Finance Controller and broader finance team members
Budgeting, Forecasting and Strategic Planning
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting cycles, including consolidation, variance analysis, and alignment with strategic business goals
- Guide and coach department managers to enhance financial literacy, including providing guidance with compiling program budgets and forecasting
- Support the Finance Controller in working with the Directors and CEO around budgets, spending, reporting, and financial accountability
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis proactively or as directed to provide performance insights that aid growth and focus appropriate resource allocation
Financial Controls and Compliance
- Develop, implement, and monitor appropriate financial systems, procedures, and internal controls to support the efficient and effective operation of the Finance function
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of Business Activity Statements (BAS), Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding, Payroll Tax, and other regulatory reporting obligations
- Maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards, taxation legislation, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate and support external audit processes
Stakeholder Engagement and Business Partnering
- Develop strong and collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of communications and timely resolution of issues
- Act as a trusted advisor to department managers and senior leadership on financial matters
- Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related discipline (Essential)
- CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification (Highly Desirable)
- Current membership with a recognised professional accounting body (Desirable)
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a management accounting or financial accounting role (Essential)
- Demonstrated experience in financial and management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting (Essential)
- Experience in team supervision and leadership (Essential)
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably CargoWise or similar logistics / freight forwarding systems (Highly Desirable)
- Experience in the logistics, freight forwarding, or transport industry (Desirable)
- Experience liaising with senior management and providing strategic financial advice (Desirable)
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling (Essential)
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards, taxation legislation, and regulatory compliance requirements (Essential)
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial systems, procedures, and internal controls (Essential)
- Experience with financial ERP systems and ability to drive system improvements (Essential)
- Knowledge of BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax, and other statutory reporting obligations (Essential)
