FIRST PEOPLE Recruitment Solutions is assisting the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts in Canberra to recruit a Finance and Investment Officer (APS6 equivalent). You will analyze NBN Co equity requests and finance data, prepare approval documents and executive briefings, and support Senate Estimates and audits.

This contract runs from 27 October 2026 to 23 May 2027, with the option to extend up to 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Strong financial analysis skills, including interpreting financial statements, finance plans and investment proposals.
  • Experience in investment assurance, approvals or financial governance.
  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to prepare clear briefings for senior executives.
  • Ability to work with complex, sensitive government or commercial information.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship skills.
  • Sound judgement in assessing risk and value for money.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse quarterly subscription notices and equity requests under the Commonwealth Equity Funding Agreement.
  • Prepare delegate approval documents and supporting analysis.
  • Analyse NBN Co financial data, investment proposals, finance plans, capital management and debt market activity.
  • Monitor progress across the NBN fibre upgrade program.
  • Prepare briefings, reports and visual materials for senior executives.
  • Support Senate Estimates material, share certificate tabling and equity-related administration.
  • Contribute to risk, regulatory and value-for-money assessments.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including during review and audit processes.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts supports a connected, liveable and thriving Australia. Its Broadband and Post Branch provides strategic advice and policy leadership on broadband and postal matters, including oversight of the Commonwealth's multi-billion-dollar equity investment in NBN Co.

About the Role

We are seeking a Finance and Investment Officer (APS6 equivalent) to join the Broadband Strategy Section in Canberra. You will analyse NBN Co equity requests, financial data and investment proposals, prepare approval documents and executive briefings, and support Senate Estimates, audit and reporting processes.

This contract runs from 27 October 2026 to 23 May 2027, with the option to extend for up to 12 months. Flexible work may be available, and a Baseline security clearance is required.

Key Duties
