Bechtel is seeking a Field Project Controls Manager for a greenfield mining project based in Weipa, Queensland. You will lead the field project controls team, implement cost and schedule controls, and report to project management and clients.

You will apply extensive experience in cost engineering, scheduling, and project controls on major construction projects in the resource sector, guiding teams and driving project performance across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13–15 years of relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, 17–19 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review earned revenue data, financial summaries, and cost controls.

Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project focused on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long‑term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

Job Summary:

As the Field Project Controls Manager you will responisble for supervising the field project controls team where you will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of project controls systems and process to enable the project controls reporting and analysis for presentation to project management and various internal/external stakeholders.

This role is offered on a 2:1 FIFO camp roster to Weipa (onboarding in Brisbane office, then transitioning to FIFO in Q2 2027).

Major Responsibilities:
  • -Responsible for effective execution of Project Controls programs on the project in accordance with Bechtel Group, Inc. Project Controls Department Procedures.
  • -Reviews and approves Earned Revenue Determination Data, Proposal Financial Summaries, Project Financial Status Reports, and Charge For Project Working Capital calculations for assigned projects.
  • -Plans staffing needs for field team.
  • -Review construction progress, productivity, quantities, and resource requirements and identify emerging schedule and performance issues.
  • -Presentation of field reporting of project progress and performance complete with the analysis of areas for improvement and those better than plan.
  • -Reviews contract drafts to ensure they include adequate cost and scope definition and meet Project Controls requirements. Coordinates development of all data in support of negotiations.
  • -Prepares, coordinates, and directs Project Controls presentations to Bechtel and client management, as required.
  • -Participates in the development and training of assigned personnel and in the implementation of on-the-job and classroom training programs.
  • -Conducts personnel performance reviews and career counseling. Interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for employment decisions.
  • -Directs Project Controls field activities. Develops, interprets, and executes policy, objectives, and standards applicable to cost and schedule control and analysis activities.
  • -Supports the Preparation of the Project Controls plan.
  • -Maintains liaison with GBU functional management to coordinate workload and staffing plans, work processes, and procedures.
  • -Develops the preparation and presentation of project/program estimates and TIC cost forecasts.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • -Experience and demonstrated skill in directing cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis, in the field office.
  • -Experience and demonstrated skill in directing, planning, and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control, and analysis, in the field and home office.
  • -Experience and demonstrated skill in establishing criteria for Project Controls activities.
  • -Significant experience in project controls and planning on major construction projects in resource sector.
  • -Strong knowledge of construction cost management, progress measurement, forecasting, and schedule management.
  • -Skilled in direction, personnel administration, and training of technical and nontechnical personnel.
  • -Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to present Project Controls information to management/client.
  • -Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
  • -Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes, as performed by Bechtel.
  • -Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • -Knowledge of current industry and technical developments.
