Job summary

Pavement Management Services Pty Ltd is looking for up to two Field Technicians to join our data collection team in The Rocks, NSW. You will operate survey vehicles and testing equipment across Australia, travelling between project locations in a two-person crew.

Expect long deployments and extended periods away from home with downtime between projects. The role requires a current drivers licence, willingness to travel extensively, and strong data handling skills.

Qualifications

• A current full (unrestricted) driver’s licence.
• Willingness to travel extensively across Australia, five to six weeks away.
• Ability to work long days, weekends, and occasional night shifts.
• Comfortable in a two-person survey crew and in a mobile environment.
• Good written English for logs and records.

Responsibilities

Pavement Management Services Pty Ltd – The Rocks NSW

Pavement Management Services (PMS) is an engineering consultancy helping road authorities, councils and infrastructure clients understand the condition of their roads and plan maintenance and investment. We are seeking up to two Field Technicians to join our data collection team. Working in a crew of two, you will operate specialised survey vehicles and testing equipment that provide the primary field evidence for engineering assessments. The quality of your work helps clients identify deterioration, prioritise repairs and keep Australia's roads safe and serviceable.

This role involves extensive travel across Australia. You will work in a mobile, two-person survey crew, travelling between project locations rather than commuting to a single worksite. During field deployments, it is normal for crews to be away from home for five to six weeks at a time, continually moving between locations as projects progress. However, the role is not spent entirely away from home. Field deployments are balanced with quieter periods and downtime between projects. While deployed, you will spend substantial time in a survey vehicle with your teammate, travelling through metropolitan, regional and remote areas. Survey days can be long and early starts are common. Work may include weekends, and occasionally night shifts where traffic conditions require it. Schedules can change at short notice due to weather, daylight, traffic or client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Collecting road condition and pavement testing data using computerised survey systems, laser sensors and cameras
• Monitoring data during collection, checking its quality and completeness, and identifying problems early
• Completing daily vehicle and equipment checks, calibration checks, routine maintenance and accurate records
• Caring for high-tech equipment so it remains reliable, correctly calibrated and ready for work, including fitting and removing vehicle-mounted sensors and cameras
• Troubleshooting minor computer, connection, sensor and equipment issues within your training and capability
• Arranging remote login support when needed and working with the project manager and technical team to diagnose and resolve faults
• Planning daily survey routes and progress with the project manager, and adapting when conditions change
• Communicating professionally with clients and subcontractors, including traffic controllers, to coordinate field activities
• Completing daily progress logs, organising data, and backing up and transferring survey results securely
• Following safe work procedures, traffic management arrangements and fatigue management requirements

About you

• A current full (unrestricted) driver's licence valid in Australia and a good driving record
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including normal field deployments of five to six weeks away
• Flexibility to work long days, early starts and some weekends, with schedules that change as projects require
• The patience, reliability and consideration needed to work effectively in a two-person team
• Confidence communicating with clients, subcontractors and colleagues
• An interest in computer systems and technical equipment, with a practical approach to solving problems
• Basic computer skills, including file management and data backup, and good written English for logs and records
• Attention to detail and a commitment to collecting accurate, complete data
• Willingness to seek assistance when a problem exceeds your knowledge or authority
• Reasonable physical fitness for outdoor work in all conditions, including lifting and fitting equipment and accessing vehicle-mounted sensors
• Above-award salary, paid in addition to travel allowances while away from home
