Job summary

DroneShield, a public listed counter-drone company, is hiring a Field Data Engineer in Sydney. You will help deliver high quality datasets to support the ML lifecycle for our drone-detection technologies, working at the intersection of embedded data capture, RF engineering and data processing.

Join a multi-disciplinary team solving complex problems with ownership and hands-on hardware work, including RF data capture, soldering and configuring RF emitters, plus Linux data workflows.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical/Mechatronic or equivalent).
  • Experience operating a Linux terminal.
  • Ideal: exposure to ML lifecycle and/or computer networking.
  • Ideal: drone enthusiasm and staying updated on industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Create high quality datasets for state-of-the-art AI model training and algorithm development.
  • Record RF data in anechoic chambers and travel to field sites within Greater Sydney at least weekly.
  • Research and analyse RF signatures emitted by drones; hand-on soldering and configuration of RF emitters.
  • Process and organise raw data in the Linux terminal.
  • Improve current data capture workflow with process and technology improvements.

About The Role

The company is seeking a Field Data Engineer to join the team in Sydney. The role will be focused on delivering high quality datasets to support the machine learning lifecycle for Droneshield’s proprietary drone detection algorithms. The successful candidate will be exposed to cutting edge embedded data capture tooling, the machine learning lifecycle, radio‑frequency mechanics, data processing techniques and the most sophisticated drone platforms in the world.

Responsibilities, Duties And Expectations
  • This is a multi‑disciplinary role, working in the Signal Intelligence Operations Team to create high quality datasets for state‑of‑the‑art AI model training and algorithm development.
  • Record radio‑frequency data in anechoic chambers and a variety of environments. This role offers the opportunity to regularly travel to field sites. Expect to travel within Greater Sydney at least once per week.
  • Research and analyse RF signatures emitted by state‑of‑the‑art drones. The role includes hand‑on soldering and configuration of RF emitters.
  • Process and organise raw data in the Linux terminal.
  • Improve current data capture workflow with process and technology improvements.
Qualifications, Experience And Skills
  • BS degree in an Engineering discipline especially Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronic or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience operating a Linux terminal.
  • Ideal: Exposure to the machine learning lifecycle and/or computer networking.
  • Ideal: You’re a drone enthusiast and keep up with the latest industry trends.
  • We’re hiring at both a junior & mid-level for this role.
