Job description

Family Lawyer: Associate or Senior Associate

You're good at this. And you want a firm that actually reflects that.

You’ve been doing this long enough to know what good family law practice looks like. Now you want a firm that lets you do it, and lets you lead.

Not a firm that buries senior lawyers in admin, ignores their ideas, or treats 10pm emails as part of the job. You want complex family law work, a team you can shape, and the flexibility to do your best work on your terms.

That’s why we’re hiring.

About Klarion Law Group

We're a forward-thinking family law firm with offices in Norwest (Sydney), Brisbane, and Melbourne — and clients across the Eastern Seaboard. We practice Family Law and Wills & Estates, and we do it differently.

We are digital-first. We speak plain English. We measure success by the outcomes our clients get, not the hours they pay for. We think technology should eliminate friction so lawyers can spend more time on what only humans can do — genuine empathy, strategic thinking, and clear advice at difficult moments.

Our vision is to build Australia's most client focussed and accessible family law practice. We're growing fast, and we want the right people growing with us.

What we offer

Full flexibility — After an initial settling in probation period, work from home, from one of our offices, or a mix. We care about output, not where you're sitting. While most contact with clients/court is electronic, there may be an infrequent need to come into our Norwest office to see clients, or attend mediations as required.

Genuine autonomy — You’re trusted as the expert. You run your files and set your strategy without being micromanaged.

A real leadership role. You’ll mentor and supervise junior lawyers and paralegals, and have a genuine voice in how the firm grows.

A values-led team — we mean it when we talk about growth mindset, integrity, and humanity. These aren't wall art.

A national client base — complex, diverse matters across the Eastern Seaboard.

Competitive remuneration — Your title and package will reflect your experience and track record.

A bonus structure worth talking about — transparent, billable-based, and designed to genuinely reward strong performance. Designed to genuinely reward strong performance. The better you do for clients, the better it is for you.

The role

You’ll run a caseload of complex family law matters, including high-value property, parenting and high-conflict matters, from first instructions through to trial or settlement. You’ll work directly with the Principal on strategy and with our panel counsel when matters go to hearing.

You’ll also lead the junior lawyers and paralegals in your team. That means supervising their files, reviewing their work, giving technical guidance, and helping them become better lawyers.

Day to day, you'll be:

Running complex matters end-to-end, including interim and final hearings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court

Giving strategic advice on property settlements and parenting arrangements, including property pools with business interests, trusts and superannuation

Supervising, reviewing and developing the junior lawyers and paralegals in your team

Communicating with clients in plain English, proactively and with genuine empathy, and setting that standard for your team

Using our digital tools and processes, and helping us improve them

Building relationships with referrers and helping grow the firm’s reputation

Contributing to a culture where excellence, efficiency and a life outside work all coexist

Who this is for

You have 4+ years’ post-admission experience in family law. Senior Associate candidates will typically have 6+ years. You’ve run complex matters to hearing. You’ve supervised or mentored other lawyers, formally or informally. You’ve hit or exceeded your billing goals.

You believe great client outcomes and a sustainable practice aren’t in conflict. You communicate clearly and proactively. You lean into technology rather than away from it. And you enjoy helping other people get better at what they do.

You’ll hold, or be entitled to hold, a current unrestricted practising certificate in your state.

Experience in criminal matters in the Local or Magistrates Court is a plus, particularly where they overlap with family law, such as domestic violence orders and related charges.

Full Australian work rights are required at the time of application.

Who this is not for

This isn’t the right role if you still need close supervision on your files, or if you’d rather not take responsibility for developing others.

It’s also not for those who see technology as an obstacle, or who prefer a more traditional, hierarchical firm. We’re building something different. That takes people who are genuinely on board with a new way of doing things, not just tolerating it.
