Job summary

HyperLight is seeking a Failure Analysis engineer to lead end-to-end investigations of photonics-related failures in our TFLN platform. You will perform SEM/XPS/Raman analyses, manage outsourced TEM work, and document findings for cross-functional teams.

You will work in our Cambridge, MA facility, applying rigorous experimental design and strict safety standards while contributing to process improvements and reliability initiatives.

Qualifications

• Independent cleanroom experience required.
• Independent SEM operation with imaging of insulating/PIC samples and EDS interpretation.
• Demonstrated experimental rigor with proper controls and variable management.
• Strong technical writing able to produce actionable reports for non-specialists.
• Willingness to complete site-specific safety training including HF handling.

Responsibilities

• Own FA cases end to end: define question, plan analysis, execute, report.
• Sequence analyses on irreplaceable samples; balance non-destructive vs destructive tests.
• Operate optical microscopy, SEM, EDS, FIB, AFM, profilometry, ellipsometry as needed.
• Characterize surfaces/chemistry: XPS, Raman, FTIR; interpret data.
• Manage outsourced analysis (TEM) with external labs.
