Job summary

CSIRO’s Business and Infrastructure Services (CBIS) invites applications for a Facilities Officer in Hobart, TAS. You will coordinate maintenance, contractor services and facilities support to keep CSIRO sites safe, efficient and well‑maintained, working with internal stakeholders and external providers.

This is a proactive, customer‑facing role requiring problem solving, relationship building and continuous improvement within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities, property, maintenance, or related operations.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to coordinate with staff, contractors and suppliers.
• Understanding of procurement processes and quotations.
• Experience coordinating contractors to complete works.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety and security procedures.
• Proficient computer skills and work order systems knowledge.
• Current motor vehicle license.

• Coordinate facilities maintenance, repairs and site service requests.

• Support day‑to‑day operations including cleaning, grounds and waste management.
• Maintain accurate records and work orders in FM systems.
• Assist with site inspections and follow up on maintenance, safety and security issues.
• Support site access processes, including cards and keys administration.
• Build positive relationships with staff, contractors and service providers.
• Identify opportunities to improve facilities services and workflows.

The opportunity

Join CSIRO Business and Infrastructure Services (CBIS) and help support the facilities, infrastructure and services that enable world‑class science across Tasmania.

As a Facilities Officer, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day operation of CSIRO sites, coordinating maintenance activities, contractor services and facilities support functions. Working closely with internal stakeholders and service providers, you'll help ensure sites remain safe, efficient and well maintained while contributing to continuous improvements in facilities services and operations.

Your high‑level duties will include:

• Coordinating facilities maintenance, repairs and site service requests.
• Arranging and managing contractors, including obtaining quotations, scheduling works and monitoring completion.
• Supporting day‑to‑day site operations, including cleaning, grounds maintenance, waste management and other facilities services.
• Maintaining accurate records and work orders using facilities management systems.
• Assisting with site inspections and following up maintenance, safety, security and presentation issues.
• Supporting site access and security processes, including administration of access cards and keys.
• Building positive relationships with staff, contractors and service providers.
• Identifying opportunities to improve facilities services, workflows and site operations.

Role particulars

Location: Hobart, TAS

Salary: AU$76k - AU$96k pa + 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified term of 12 months, Part‑time (44.1 hours per fortnight)

Flexibility to negotiate working days and hours, subject to operational requirements

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• Relevant experience in facilities, property, maintenance, administration or a related operational environment, with an understanding of the coordination and delivery of facilities services.
• Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, including working with colleagues across multiple sites and supporting a range of operational requirements.
• Understanding of procurement and purchasing processes, including obtaining quotations, arranging service providers, obtaining appropriate approvals and maintaining relevant records.
• Demonstrated ability to work with general direction and take responsibility for coordinating facilities‑related activities, including arranging and following up contractors and service providers to ensure works are completed appropriately.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety, security and relevant facilities procedures, with the ability to identify and report issues and follow established processes and requirements.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use work order management, access control and other relevant systems.
• Current motor vehicle license.
